Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

This hour-long workout gives viewers an energizing introduction to qigong, the "life force" exercise at the foundation of Chinese martial arts. You don't have to be in top physical shape to follow the exercises; all you have to be is interested in strengthening your body as you enhance your spirit, boosting your mental and physical well-being with exercises that combine meditative concentration, deep breathing, and steady, rhythmic movements. Instructors Garri and Daisy Lee Garripoli guide viewers through three separate forms of qigong: the Wuji Swimming Dragon stretches, the 18-move Wuji Long Form, and the Shaolin Self Massage. All of the exercises are designed to loosen joints, increase flexibility, and reinforce your dan tien, or center of gravity. The video is beautifully filmed, and Garri's soothing voice-over instructions would be perfectly suited for a guided meditation. Occasionally, it's easy for beginners to get lost following along--some of the moves are so detailed, even finger positions count, and since the camera is facing the Garripolis, you often find yourself mirroring the moves rather than following the proper direction. But overall, the presentation is clear and the moves are gradual enough to follow along. The physical benefits, Garri explains, range from preventing osteoporosis to shaking off carpal tunnel and toning the eye muscles. After repeating just a few of these whole-body exercises, you will feel better (especially the acupressure face massage). And despite their effortless appearance, you'll build up quite a sweat. --Grant Balfour

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT Qigong Video!, July 1, 2002

This review is from: Qigong for Healing [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have studied Tai Chi and Hung Gar kung fu for about 9 years, but I can safely say that this is one of the best (if not THE best) Qigong forms I have ever learned. If you do the complete Wuji long form, you will sweat, so it is a mild workout. Keep in mind that it's meant to "heal", not build muscle, so don't expect miracles. ;-) But do expect to feel something and to experience a sense of calming that you so rightly deserve. If you can spare about an hour, even once a week, then do this workout. You'll soon want to do it much more often than that. ;-)

Off and on over the years I've looked into Qigong, but just couldn't relate to what was presented in books and videos. Recently I went online and found samples on Youtube. Some of these encouraged me. I found Garri Garripoli's book at our library, and really liked it. I'm glad I was able to find him on Amazon, and now have his book and video. I'm pleased with both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very comprehensive, May 18, 2008

This is a very good tape. It covers all of Qigong. The best part is the last half where it's more abbreviated with enough exercises to make your body feel healthy.
