5.0 out of 5 stars Cool keyboard departure for a fine band
This isn't quite the same as traditional Quiet Riot but still cool nonetheless. The songwriting and style is pretty much the same there is just an abundance of keyboards and synthesizers trying to give a modern (at the time) sound similar to Night Ranger, Autograph and Danger Danger (who would emerge at the end of the 80's).

I remember when MTV had "The WIld and The Young" in heavy rotation. I was a good catchy anthem. True it was difficult watching Kevin DuBrow wearing that oversized poodle wig without cracking up. The man with no hairline for the last two albums now had Bon Jovi hair times 10!

The album has a couple good songs here and there like maybe "Put it up or shut it...

4.0 out of 5 stars The best QR album, June 25, 2005

Allister Fiend (Baltimore, MD United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: QR III (Audio CD)
I'm probably in the minority here, but I really think QRIII is the best album this band ever did (Metal Health is a close 2nd, though). It's also their most "pop metal" album, featuring more keyboards and de-emphasizing the guitar a little bit.

The whole first half of this disc is incredible, especially "The Wild & the Young," & "Twilight Hotel." Chuck Wright's bass solo "Bass Case" is pretty cool, as well. If you like QR, you probably already have this, but if you're new to the group, this is a great album to add to the collection.

If you like any of their stuff, you should dig this QR album. Even though I find it to be a blast, first time listeners who are only familiar with Metal Health or the other stuff should listen before buying.

"The Main Attraction" is a cool keyboard song, one of the best faster-paced songs on the album and a great anthem of a chorus. "The wild and the young" was the first single, cool stuff, speaking out against censorship with the song and video. Not as good as the remake they did for the 'Alive and Well' cd but still quality nonetheless.

"Twilight Hotel" is the second single and a cool ballad type song and a fine video! One of the band's best ballads. "Down and dirty" has a sleazy vibe to it even behind all the synths and keyboards. "Rise or fall" sounds almost like a lighter version of a Scorpions or Accept song.

"Put up or shut up" is likely the only setback on the disc having the worst lyrics but still pretty good. "Still of the night" (not the Whitesnake song) is another fine ballad, similar to something Whitesnake might have done :) "Bass Case" leads into "The Pump" another fine groove with a bit too much synths and keys but still cool.

"Slave to love" could have been on 'Condition Critical' if there was a bit more guitar to it. "Helping hands" was originally written for an album to benefit charity but never used, some positive lyrics about changing the world, may sound a little dated but it has a great chorus and a good message that no one likes to say anymore.

Although a few of the lyrics are similar to typical 80's fare ("Put up or shut up"), Kevin DuBrow and the guys are quite intelligent. They do put a nice twist on words which makes you think a little bit more, such as "Twilight Hotel." Fine 80's hard rock, much better than most reviewer give it credit for, this got bashed only because it was a change from 'Metal Health.' It was obviously no comparison but if any other band had done it, it would have gotten better reviews. Granted, there could have been less keyboards and synthesizers in more places and some more guitar.

But Kevin (vocals), Frankie Banali (drums), and Chuck Wright (the guy who played the majority of the bass on Metal Health anyway) all sound great, so does Carlos Cavazo (guitars) but he got hidden by the producer a lot. Besides, the keys add to some songs (Twilight Hotel, Still of the night, Main Attraction). Pick it up and listen first if you must.

The album has a couple good songs here and there like maybe "Put it up or shut it up." But this album has a lot to much synth and pop polish for my taste.

There must have been a misgiving with Kevin 'The Mouth' DuBrow because after this album he was tempoarily replaced for the next album 'Quiet Riot'. I heard he had been bad mouthing the prodcuer behind his back when the guy was actually standing behind HIS back!! HA ha, only in Rock n Roll.

5.0 out of 5 stars MAJORLY UNDERRATED!!!!!!!!, April 19, 2002

This is one of the most underrated heavy metal albums of all time. I love every song on the CD, especially "The Wild and the Young" and "Twilight Hotel." This is a CD that every former metal head should own.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quiet Riot abandons what made them successful, March 31, 2011
This review is from: Qr III (Audio CD)
Quiet Riot abandons the party anthems, Slade covers, and great guitars, to just plain stinks. This is keyboard heavy, half ballads, with songs that repeat three words over and over. They have huge puffy hair, then do the Styx Kilroy "were here to save rock and roll" in the Wild & Young video, then try to do horror films in the Twilight Hotel video. Going in all directions, succeeding in none. Put up or shut up is the only good song here. Fortunately, Poison picked up the party anthem mantle and ran with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best band in the universe, September 5, 2009
This review is from: QR III (Audio CD)
The Quiet Riot 3 cd I think shows that Quiet Riot is very versitile as a band.(means that they could play more than one style of rock and roll). This cd should have boosted the band to number one on the billboard charts.but, leave it to the music delagates from the record company, and the music critics, and the one track minded fans that left and took motley crues side because,Kevin Dubrow trashed them,That is why the cd tanked.I totally agree what Kevin Dubrow said about motley crue THEY SUCK BIG TIME!!!!!!I acould not agree with him more.Everybody in the music business helped motley crue and no one helped Quiet Riot Probably because, the music business hates italians and mexicans and the guys in Quiet Riot were italians and mexicans. The press was out to get Kevin Dubrow and Quiet Riot from the beginning. How come Carlos Cavazo(the guitar player) was not featured as the cover story in guitar world?reason?because he was mexican,And why wasn t Frankie Banali featured on the cover of modern Drummer magazine as the cover story?because,he was italian. The music business is filled with rich, fat, chain smoking redneck white supremists.I would of punched out spencer proffer(their producer) because,I know he had something to do with the destruction of Quiet riot.So FU all of you music critics,FU,all of you managers,FU all of you agents, and FU all of you fans that went to favor motley crue all of you are desposible chapters in a bands career.Quiet Riot was better offf with out you people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top 5 EVER, March 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: QR III (Audio CD)
This is the CD I play whenever I need to get "pumped up", exicited, crazy, or out of a bad mood. In my opinion, this is one of the Top 5 albums ever put out! It has rockin' songs, ballads, and everything in between. If you are a fan of great music, get this CD. It will be in my CD player long after I take Led Zep 4 out!

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece...simply unforgettable, July 24, 2002

The song "Put Up or Shut Up" from this record says it all...my boys from QR know what's up.

If you don't own this record, you probably don't know rock. And if you don't know rock, then you should probably just put your headphones back on and finish up your lame Radiohead album.

QR is the real deal, folks, a better band than most.

I'D CHECK IT OUT!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Too slick and poppy!, August 10, 2006
This review is from: QR III (Audio CD)
Let's face it, Quiet Riot didn't make great albums, but they sure did have some good headbanging tunes on their first two albums. For their third release, they decided to crank up the keyboards and go for a much poppier sound. Now I guess that would be okay if the songs were catchy, but they mostly aren't. I do like "The Wild And The Young" even though it is much too slick and overproduced. I also enjoy "Put Up Or Shut Up" as a good, dumb rocker. But that's it. The rest of this disc is quite forgettable.
