Reserve a table at the "Jook Joint" Tonight!!!,
By Kenny King (Kaiserslautern, Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Q's Jook Joint (Audio CD)
What a stunning set of songs by incredible artists!! I am a sucker for a good compilation cd! Quincy knew what he was doing with the release of "Q's Jook Joint". It was sad though, because I was almost a year late in getting this cd. I just happened to be over my cousin's house hanging out, heard Brandy's trademark voice on the Michael Jackson remake, "Rock With You", made her play the whole cd, then just up and left to buy it! If you like jazz, get this cd. If you like R&B get this cd. If you like rap, get this cd. If you don't like any of those genres of music, you still have to get this cd. It definitely satisfies! If for nothing else buy it for the wonderful collaboration, "Moody's Mood For Love", a wonderful duet between Brian McKnight and Rachelle Ferrell with Take 6 doing background vocals (pure heaven!!!). The whole cd hits the nail right on the head. I love the way it feels like you are really in an old skool meets new skool night club. Not just a cd, but an experience like no other! You better reserve your seat at the "Jook Joint" today! You don't want to get turned away at the door!Just a few other artists featured on the cd include Gloria Estefan, Chaka Chan, Phil Collins, Tamia, Babyface, Ronald Isley (Mr. Bigg), R. Kelly, Naomi Campbell and Queen Latifah.

This CD was a well kept a secret. Why?,

An eclectic gathering of folks who party and sing well, that's what this CD is all about. Found it by accident. Heard the Phil Collins cut (Do nothin' Till You Hear From Me), tried to find it at music store and surprise, surprise...it was just a teaser from Q's Jook Joint. Everything, and I mean everything (including the creaking of the hot tub floorboards) is great on this CD. Whoever did the marketing should be fired. Most of my friends never heard nor were aware of the CD. This is one of the best CDs I've heard in years.

A True Desert Island Disc,

Quincy Jones' best album.
This is one of the great "concept" discs, based on the juke joints that served as makeshift nightclubs dotted across the landscape in the south in decades long gone by. With a stellar cast of musicians as his instruments, Quincy literally creates the atmosphere of his own juke joint in track 1 and then runs with a gorgeous, beat filled hour non-stop after that. The sound quality is fabulous - let it roll over you with the lights low and it will transport you to another time and with its energy and rhythms I've purchased two copies of this CD for myself, given two as gifts and, of course, have it on my iPod. Everyone I've turned on to this album has thanked me. Highest recommendation. Its just great.

Insuperable talent, does not get any better...,

Quincy Jones is like the Steven Spielberg of music; musician, producer, entreprenuer, you name it.
This is the fourth album in a quadruply (together with Body Heat, The Dude and Back On The Block) of amazing productions, a unique and once in a lifetime reunion of artistic talent. Like other Q albums, the magic formula is diversity, a perfex mix of R&B, jazz, pop, rap, it's all here. In a way, it's the same concept that Q "produced" into Michael Jackson's thriller, making it one of the best albums of all time. Just some of the artist in perfect colaboration: Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Phil Collins, Gloria Estefan, Brandy, Bono, Luis Miguel, Toots Thielemans, Barry White, Stomp, Chaka Kahn, Take Six, Babyface, the list goes on..... This album came out in 1995, alternative rock was still going strong then, and at the time it was underated??!!!Some critizized it as overblown and overly-produced. I can't think of anybody today just getting artists of this caliber and history into the studio. Not to mention production and technical skill (WOW) this album sounds as if it was recorded yesterday (never outdated). It is a required listening and blueprint for aspiring music producers. A true historic recording, a must have for any music collection

Im a jazz apreciator. As soon as I discover Q's I found out one of the music styles I most apreciate. Since then I'm always looking for there recent records or CD's. Here in Brazil is a litle bit hard to find them, but now I discover Amazon in witch catalog is easy to find Quincy CD's. From now on I will keep my collection up to date.
Thank you gentleman. Braz. PS: Excuse the english errors.

It is a tribute to Quincy Jones' stature as a musician and a producer that such a cast would want... no, INSIST... on being included in this project. One listen from beginning to end - reading the liner booklet while doing so - will blow you away! It is a stunning achievement! Want the double whammy? Play "Q's Jook Joint" and "Back On The Block" back to back! Quincy is probably the most important figure in modern music. Do yourself a favor and get a schoolin' from Dr. Q!

Five Stars and a Snap with a Twist in Your Wrist,
By
This review is from: Q's Jook Joint (Reis) (Audio CD)
This is a five star collection of songs from start to finish and then back again over and over. Like "Back on the Block" before it, Q pulls in his friends and admirers for a superstar jam that just doesn't stop moving you, whether it's to tap your feet, to clap your hands, or even to feel your heart ache.
-Want fun pop R&B ? Try Brandy singing 'Rock with You.' -Want achingly presented love? Try Tamia crooning 'You Put a Move on My Heart.' -Want an upbeat anthem to get your heart and soul pumping along with your body? Try a supergroup lifting up 'Stuff Like That' or 'Stomp.' -Want a warm soft slow jam? Try the boys oozing sexiness in...'Slow Jams.' Heck, Q even makes Phil Collins work for me in 'Do Nothin' Till You Hear from Me.' And once you pick up this five star CD, move immediately on to "Back on the Block." Who but the Q could do two in a row of this perfection?

What can you say about "Q" Jones other than that he is a living treasure. This album has to be one of his greatest. I bought my first copy some years ago and another one recently after one of my friends begged me for the first copy. This album is the standard for excellent music in the Jones R&B/jazz/blues category. Enjoy!!!!

Mr. Quincy Jones... I will never forget my one chance meeting with "Q" back in the early 1990's, in an elevator at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center based in Los Angeles, California the largest nonprofit hospital in the western United States. I believe he was visiting his ill mother at the time or maybe it was for personal reason...if my memory services me well... "AnyWay," for me it was a moment frozen in time and he was very cool and so was I too (careful not to freak him out...), so I took the one and only opportunity after our friendly encounter and greeting and asked him so what really is the key to music? He kindly replied, as he held the elevator doors for a second before exiting... "Melody my friend, Melody is KING! That's one reason why I have every record/ CD from Q in my collection...--"Big Dave" Burleigh an 'AmeriCanadian' Record Producre/ Artist/ Singer-Songwritre. |
