4.0 out of 5 stars Fun romp
I was lucky enough to read Bob Metger's first novel, Quad World, in manuscript form -- and I can tell you you're really in for a treat if you only know him from his short work! He really lets his imagination go here, creating a world where anything and anyone can appear. Telling too much will ruin the surprises. But rest assured, if you like humorous "gonzo"...

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is awful. Conceptually flawed and poorly written.
My beautiful girlfriend Nully gave me this book to torture me. She said, "This is the worst book I ever read, and now you're gonna read it." I read it. I wasn't happy. I would go into a detailed analysis, but its too painful. I'll just say that this book has unneccasarfy plot twists every other page, about five or six different revelations about the...

5.0 out of 5 stars My Brain Hurts, March 13, 2001

Like peeling layer after layer away from some globe-sized onion, the mystery of who/what John Smith is, and how he finds himself in Quad World, and just what it is he must do there, is utterly fascinating. Nothing is as it seems, and when you think you've got if figured out, the entire world gets turned on its head. A turbo-speed puzzle that will require you to keep all your neurons engaged.

My beautiful girlfriend Nully gave me this book to torture me. She said, "This is the worst book I ever read, and now you're gonna read it." I read it. I wasn't happy. I would go into a detailed analysis, but its too painful. I'll just say that this book has unneccasarfy plot twists every other page, about five or six different revelations about the main character's ACTUAL identity, and a slew of annoying characters. Just stay away from it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, May 16, 2003

I have read sf for almost 40 years, and I must say that this is one of the worse books I ever read. It is nonsensical, inconclusive, gratuitous, and, above all, boring. Don't waste your money on this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Weird and Twisted, March 29, 2001
This review is from: Quad World (Paperback)
If you want an easy read, where you can figure out the ending after reading just the first few pages, then don't get this book. But if you like something complicated, then buy it. I can not think of any other hard-sf novel where you could find Elvis rubbing elbows with Napoleon and Satan. Metzger is one weird and twisted writer.
