Book Description

November 1, 1991 Roc
John Smith began that morning a perfectly health man, but before he knows it time freezes during his morning staff meeting and he thinks he's dying.Has his body stopped or has everything around him? When the clock begins to click again, he is trapped in a parallel universe, where he is "greeted" by Joan of Arc and Robin Hood. Trapped in a world inhabited by only Quads and survivors of biological warfare, John becomes entangled in a battle between God or the Devil, Elvis and Napoleon. The fate of the world resides on John putting together the pieces of a cosmic puzzle before everyone in Quad world is forever confined to Hell. Can he discover the secrets of Quad in time?

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun romp, June 11, 2001
This review is from: Quad World (Paperback)
I was lucky enough to read Bob Metger's first novel, Quad World, in manuscript form -- and I can tell you you're really in for a treat if you only know him from his short work! He really lets his imagination go here, creating a world where anything and anyone can appear. Telling too much will ruin the surprises. But rest assured, if you like humorous "gonzo" science fiction, this book will be right up your alley.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Brain Hurts, March 13, 2001

This review is from: Quad World (Paperback)
Like peeling layer after layer away from some globe-sized onion, the mystery of who/what John Smith is, and how he finds himself in Quad World, and just what it is he must do there, is utterly fascinating. Nothing is as it seems, and when you think you've got if figured out, the entire world gets turned on its head. A turbo-speed puzzle that will require you to keep all your neurons engaged.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is awful. Conceptually flawed and poorly written., September 25, 1998

This review is from: Quad World (Roc) (Paperback)
My beautiful girlfriend Nully gave me this book to torture me. She said, "This is the worst book I ever read, and now you're gonna read it." I read it. I wasn't happy. I would go into a detailed analysis, but its too painful. I'll just say that this book has unneccasarfy plot twists every other page, about five or six different revelations about the main character's ACTUAL identity, and a slew of annoying characters. Just stay away from it.
