We love this after it is all set up. But, when my little boy (age 4) leans over to get another marble started or whatever, the whole structure falls down. It gets a little frustrating/ iritating. It the table MOVES, it's down.
We are thinking of glueing it all together. :)

This toy is one of the best things we've gotten for our kids in a long time. It is made of solid wood pieces which can be fit together in different patterns, allowing marbles to roll down the track and through tunnels. It sounds very simplistic, but this is its charm! Our six year old son played with it for two days straight when he got it for Christmas, and soon his two older sisters were helping think of new ways to configure the marble run. I was impressed because Quadrilla is very sturdy when it's assembled, which avoids the frustrations we sometimes see with racetracks or Lego buildings that fall apart. I give this set five stars in all areas because it teaches physics, develops imagination and fine motor skills, and teaches children that not all fun toys have a joy stick, batteries or flashing lights. We plan to add to our basic Quadrilla set in the future. We already bought extra marbles in various colors to make "teams."

It's OK-- I secretly wish I bought the $15 one at Target. It snaps together tight because it's made of plastic.
But, it is a cool toy and the marbles racing down the track and through the helix are just mezmerizing to all of us!

I bought this set for my daughter's 4 years old birthday, she absolutely loves it, she can play it for half an hour or even longer, even my wife enjoyed playing this with us. And all the kids who come to play in my house also love it. I am planning to buy more expansion sets to make it more fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best marble set I've seen, August 28, 2006
This review is from: Quadrilla Marble Railway, Basic Set (Toy)
This is a great toy. My son got it for his 5th birthday, and was initially uninterested. His 7 year old sister started playing with it, and within days it was the most favored toy in the house. We got several of the add-on sets, and particularly the red teeter-totter along with the long rails (need these to make the teeter-totter work!) really add to the fun. I would highly recommend this as a great gift for any child between 4-7. It's also very durable and should last through several sets of kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars These are great... but you need more!, December 5, 2006

This review is from: Quadrilla Marble Railway, Basic Set (Toy)
Our family recently discovered the Quadrilla system and we love them.

The quality is excellent. The blocks are solid wood, but for strength the rails are a multi-layer plywood. Another thing we were impressed by is how interesting they are to build and play with, not only for the kids, but the grown ups as well. The running marbles are very fun, and the kids invariably end up hopping up and down with excitement.

One critique is that this basic set is really too small to stand on its own. There are only a couple configurations that you can make with this few pieces. While they are still pretty cool, I'd have to recommend the Quadrilla Marble Railway, Twist and Rail more. It has more pieces (including the teeter-totter!) and won't leave you wishing so desperately for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars well-made, physics fun, January 9, 2007

My very science minded five year old loves this toy! More than two weeks after Christmas he is still playing with it every day. In terms of manual dexterity he needs a little help from an adult to set up the tracks, but conceptually he is totally engaged, imagining and figuring out new systems to build. I was afraid that this set might be too basic/limited, but even within this set we have built exciting variations, although we are looking forward to getting some expansion packs now that we know the toy is a hit. (It's been a lot of fun for me too. The solid wood construction makes all the difference, avoiding the frustration of more cheaply made toys.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Includes some plastic, December 30, 2008

My kids (ages 2 to 5) all LOVE this toy. I like it because it's open-ended play and can be put into various configurations. It is a little delicate when it's set up. If the kids get a little rambunctious, the thing either comes tumbling down or gets thrown out of whack so that we have marbles going every which way. This hasn't happened often, though, and my 5-year-old son is already trying to plan new configurations and perusing extension sets.

My only real complaint with the Quadrilla is that I was under the impression that the set was completely constructed of wood. There are plastic rings and other bitty parts used among the wood, however, so be please be aware of this if you do not allow plastic into your home!

The Quadrilla basic set marble run is a great introduction to Quadrilla. The pieces are sturdy, made to withstand years of play. We gave this set to our 6 year old for Christmas and we have enjoyed playing with it numerous times. I'm looking for another set for the next holiday to expand the range of building possibilities. One reviewer suggested buying the largest you can imagine you'd want right off the bat...well, if you can afford it, I would agree.

We build on the hardwood floor so there is not the problem of wobbling tables and toppling towers some have mentioned. The only improvement I'd suggest for Quadrilla is making the colors more easy to distinguish from each other. In low light the colors are hard to tell apart, and for someone who's color blind, they'd be impossible - and that is 1 in 7 of the male population.

We gave this to our 4 year old son for Christmas and he and his 6 year old brother love it. They play with it all the time and it is easy for them to assemble. Some of the runs are a bit challenging to build on their own, but they also enjoy making up their own designs.

My son has really enjoyed playing with this Marble Railway. It has kept him occupied for hours at a time. It's well made (durable), and it will foster your child's creativity through its countless ways one can set it up. I myself have enjoyed playing with it as well! :-)
