This group is very good - well ballanced, polished yet full voice and sound.

Takes time to get into you - but worth it.

Have you ever heard of the Early Music Triathlon? All the records were held for decades by the old New York Pro Musica of the 1950s, with strong occasional competition from the Boston Camerata.

First event: pack all 67 of your odd-shaped historical instruments, winds and strings, in as few shotgun and fishing rod cases as possible, and shlep them on stage; points for both the smallest number of cases and the shortest shlepping time.

Second event: tune all those instruments to the same A460 or A415 in the shortest time; tuning margin of error must not exceed a quarter tone.

Third event: begin with 'aleph' and play through the alphabetical sequence of composition from the Glogauer Liederbuch in quick succession until someone makes a false entry; the victor is the ensemble that gets farthest.

Cantica Symphonia, in this performance of motets by Guillaume Dufay, seems bent on snatching the Triathlon title. The non-blend of voices and instruments is, as I said above, awkward, labored, and lumpy, especially on the motets using sackbuts (aka trombones). The tempi are consistently plodding. The necessary 'interpenetration' of the three or four lines of polyphony just can't be heard as such. Dufay should be graceful, effortless, and smoothly blended in ensemble. What I hear here is the opposite.
