Product Description

Product Description

Shortly after landing on an alien surface, you learn that hundreds of your men have been reduced to just a few. Now you must fight your way through heavily fortified military installations, lower the city's defenses and shut down the enemy's war machine. Only then will the fate of humanity be known.

You've landed in an alien land only to find that your troops have been depleted. It's up to you to fight through enemy lines to save yourself and humanity. With smarter enemies and longer, more challenging levels, Quake II builds on its predecessor, Quake, for even more challenging play. A mistake in one level may haunt you for the rest of the game.

Quake II offers its players intense sound and graphics with real-time lighting effects. It may seem the missiles are exploding in your living room. Plus, you can play online against up to 32 players who may be fighting for--or against--your cause. Parents note: Quake II is intended for mature audiences due to the violent nature of the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last. December 2, 1999
By A Customer
If you're a Mac User like me, and you're tired of PC Users getting all the hot titles, here's a step in the right direction. Quake II has all the features and frenetic game play of the Windows version. Quake II in many ways picks up where Quake left off. There are still the fantastic graphics and hideous enemies of the original, with cooler weapons, more complex levels, and smarter bad guys. The improved AI of monsters is evident, as they duck, hide and even fall back and setup ambushes. You will need a good system to run this game. Anyone with less than a G3 will probably find game performance a problem, but if you've got the hardware, this is a must-have game. Multi-player support is also enhanced, making death matches run more smoothly. So lock yourself away and prepare for another bout of repetitive stress injuries, because Quake II for Mac is here.

Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I didn't realize that. I am a new and exuberant iMac user, and was eager to play Quake 2 on my system! Other experienced Mac users may know this, but I didn't realize that the term "Classic Environment" is Apple code for "It doesn't work on Macs anymore." So instead of a game, I have a coaster.

... if you can find a machine on which to play. My all-time favorite of the Quakes was III Arena, just because there was no storyline, but this rocks, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excuse Me While I Kick Ass January 12, 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is an oldie but goodie that begs for multiple replays as you explore an entire game world with many, many levels and adventuring environments. You are a marine sent to an alien planet after the aliens attack Earth. You are supposed to be part of a platoon or company of marines that are going to attack the enemy Strogg, but the rest of your unit is killed, and you're on your own. You fight your way through the levels and adventuring areas of the game, picking up better gear as you go and laying waste to what I felt was an annoyingly small number of enemy types. The enemy units that are here are interesting, but there aren't enough of them. This is the only ding I have in what is otherwise one hell of a fun game. The weapons are great, even though I wondered where your marine put them all when he wasn't using them, and defeating the different levels was always fun. The game is well thought-out, with each level providing different challenges. There are a number of hidden levels and hidden ammo/weapon caches throughout the game, these were a good time to find and can give you some butt-kicking equipment several levels ahead of where those weapons would normally be available. This game is dated now but still fun to play if you have the equipment, and if you're a young gamer with the right system on your computer, this old game will reward your time and effort with good, clean fun.
