The Quake games have had a long-standing relationship on the PC, dating back to their predecessor Doom and its sequels, and have been considered by many gamers to include some of the best first-person shooters on that platform. The PlayStation2's crack at the whip is executed elegantly, as the hardware hardly breaks a sweat.
The player is placed in a beautifully detailed arena with a bunch of other nasty killers in a variety of do-or-die scenarios. In one, the player must survive all of the other assailants; in another, he must find the flag and keep hold of it for one minute. It sounds simple, though it's anything but.
With stunning graphics, amazing speed, and stomach-churning sounds, this game looks good and plays well, but it lacks the one element that makes the PC and Dreamcast versions of the game so good: namely, the online play. Having said that, it compensates with the multiplayer option--up to four people can play on the same console in four-way split-screen action. Playing this way against real opponents offers the greatest fun, and the graphics hardly suffer at all. --Robert Hyde

It's a first person shooter, what did you expected?,

Quake has been known as being one of the best in the relm of first person shooters. For the most part I agree. It holds your attention, provides hours of decent gameplay, and keeps you coming back for more. However like many first person shooters of it's time it followed the typical sci-fi feel. With games like Half Life,Aliens vs Predator, Unreal it just seems to hit on the nail that it is a sci-fi game. Thus we get some easily recognizable feel.THis game has a story (very shallow but it's a first person shooter). You play one of four cahrtacters who goes through the realm of combat, starting from slave and ending in overlord. TO win the levels are multiplayer style events. Kill most creatures, Capture the flag, and so on. You get the basic idea. YOu are graded on performance and get your stats increased accordingly. SO if play more defense, you defense will grow faster but offense will not, and vice-versa. Overall it is really meant for multiple players. Otherwise your just not having as much fun.

i need more...,

If you've played all the Quake you can get your hands on, including the mission packs, this is the only place left really. I've done half life, unreal and red faction in an attempt to dim my quake urges but nothing worked except Quake 3! All I can say is I NEED MORE QUAKE!

Quake 3: Revolution,

This review is from: Quake 3: Revolution (Video Game)
I think this game is great. It has great graphics, the gameplay is faster than Timesplitters, and their are more arenas around 30. The game also contains 12 high powered waepons and well over 30 characters to choose from. It has single player and team mmodes. The advance control setting is the easiest to learn you can pick it up in less than 10 minutes. This is a great game if you have a multitap and want to shoot it out with three friends on the weekend, the entire game including the single player mode is like a big multiplayer mode they set you in an area and kill as many people you can or capture the flag there is no real mission except raise your players attributes. The only thing that take away from the game are the EXTREMELY long load times ,but it is worth it.
