Ventana's first book on computer gaming is a good one. Quake: Authorized Strategy Guide is a well-written, easy-to-read handbook that can help players of all skill levels find their way through the dark and ominous world of id Software's Quake. The book offers complete descriptions and illustrations of the many levels of the game (plus the name of each level's real-world designer) as well as the evil denizens lurking therein. Each level description also features a thorough guide to the various secrets you can find as you make your frantic way to the end. The book's 3-D illustrated maps of each level are unique and a noble effort, but are often more confusing than helpful. (They are difficult to read.) If you need help with your Quake deathmatching skills, you won't find it here.
