What can I say about this album, besides it being one of my favorite listens? Well, the band Den Fule hails from Sweden: probably not the first place you think of when concerning music innovation, but this group does just that. It combines elements of rock, jazz, folk and even throws in some blues and a little bit of a world music sensiblility. About half the songs are instrumentals, the other half contain Swedish lyrics sung by a singer with a most fitting voice: soft and somber at times("Vinge") and at others belting em out and even growling("Koptespake" where he also feels the need to yodel!). Den Fule's musicans are very talented as well as they cause the music to gel together and create sounds that just have your brain jumping everywhere("Pal Karls Vals"). Electric guitarist performs great solos as well as interesting rythms and accompaniments to the sound. The bassist, fiddle player and woodwinds are all topnotch, but I absolutely love the beats laid down by the drummer: cool, funky and jazz style. I can say this band has one of my favorite rythm sections of all time. So, if you want something that varies in sound and style from the boring norm - feel like you have an attention span of more than 3.5 seconds, and are an actual music lover, not of cliched rock with your mind stuck in a box, check out this disc - with over 70 minutes of playing time. This group is remarkable. Ablaze with energy and refined technique...detail to a degree that demonstrates their focused dedication to the creative art form of progressive(forgive the term)rock music. Astounding cd!
