A Good Product That Works And Is Safe On Antiques,

I have used many products over 35 years to keep statues and other antiques and collectibles in place and stable when they are on table tops. Most are some sort of clay material you make into the size you want and then glop it onto the surfaces and hope it works and also doesn't show.
When I got this and used it, the only thing I think they really skimped on is a solid, long lasting "instrument" with which to scrape the wax material off and out of the container. They give you a thin little "shim" of wood which would have been better off if it were thicker and Popsicle stick like. My little scraper broke in about two days or less of use. I have my own ways now of shaving off the material without worrying about splinters. This material is good, abit harder than I would prefer, and not quite as pliable even after one "warms it up" by their hand temperature. But it does work well at attaching to things, and I like the fact that it is relatively clear. I have used it on wood, porcelain, metal and glazed pottery. So far it works very well. My only fault on it is they should include either a short, fat Popsicle like stick, or another utensil made of sharp but thick hard plastic, which would do the scraping well and not break.

We used this to hold ceramic art in place at my daughter's show at an outdoor art festival. It also held price tags on the artwork and kept lids from falling off when the items were picked up. Wonderful! And it rubs right off when you're done. We discovered it from our friends who have a yacht and they keep decor items in place while the boat is crossing the sea.

This review is from: Quakehold! 55111 4-Ounce Museum Wax (Tools & Home Improvement)
I USED THIS MUSEUM WAX AT AN ART SHOW ON THE BOARDWALK AT VIRGINIA BEACH RECENTLY. MY HUSBAND IS A WOOD TURNER, AND NEEDED SOMETHING THAT WOULD HOLD HIS PIECES IN PLACE. WE HAD UNEXPECTED WIND GUSTS OF 30+MPH. WE DID NOT LOSE A SINGLE PIECE. IT WAS ALSO OVER 100* THAT SAME DAY. THE WAX HELD EVEN WITH THE STRONG WINDS AND THE EXTREME HEAT. THE WAX IS REMOVABLE AND REUSABLE, JUST LIKE ADVERTISED. IT TAKES A LITTLE BIT OF RUBBING WITH A CLOTH TO REMOVE THE EXCESS WAX FROM THE WOOD. BUT, IT DOES COME OFF AND IT DOES NOT LEAVE ANY MARKS OR DISCOLORATION ON THE WOOD. I LEARNED ABOUT THIS PRODUCT FROM ANOTHER ARTIST WHEN I WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO DISPLAY ANYTHING AT HOME BECAUSE OF MY CATS. HE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS PRODUCT, AND I CAN SAFELY DISPLAY FRAGILE PIECES EVEN IN A HOUSE FULL OF CATS! IT IS A GREAT ITEM FOR THE PRICE!

How does this product compare to Quakehold! 88111 Museum Putty Neutral? Hopefully you will find the attached video helpful in selecting the product that best meets your needs. Pros - Very strong bond Cons - Somewhat messy to work with, very messy to remove Bottom Line: Museum Wax is great stuff when you want something that is nearly permanent and can still be removed, with a bit of work, on the right kind of surfaces. Otherwise, the additional holding power, over putty, was not worth the additional mess I prefer using the Museum Putty. BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews, accompanied by detailed videos, can take the place of first-hand experiences that are often lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've gotten from other reviewers and try to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and the video at least entertaining. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

Such a disappointment!,

I was hoping that this "Museum wax" was like the stuff I got used to using while working to help set up art exhibits in galleries. That stuff came in hard sticks in boxes, and was only pliable after warming it up in your hands and working it a bit. That stuff could probably hold a ten-pound vase straight to a vertical wall. I've used that wax from what was left on my artwork for years, and it held my tall, heavy items to the shelves strongly during the big 9.0 earthquake of Japan in March of 2011 (I lived in Japan then). THIS stuff, the Quakehold Museum Wax, is a huge waste of money and such a disappointment. It is sticky and gooey right out of the container. It can't even keep my small painting level against the wall--it's like I stuck melted chewing gum in back of my painting. I guess I'll have to keep looking for the professional stuff. :(

It is a 'wax', so if in direct sun (lots of heat) it will slide a bit, but other than that is extremely effective and economical to use (a little goes a long way).

This is the greatest product, for people with Cats, especially! Couldn't find it an any craft store in NY, but thrilled to find it through Amazon.

This product is great. When I lived in CA, I would put it under figurines and pictures on my fireplace mantle - just in case there was an earthquake. I never got the quake, but the items stayed in place and I could lift them easily enough for dusting, or dust around them. Now that I'm back in MI, I use the wax to hold my pictures in place. Now when my husband brushes a painting as he walks by, they just stay in place and I am not forever straightening pictures. Good stuff! And Amazon's price was great.
