5.0 out of 5 stars ShingleShark
I have had the ShingleShark for about two months, most of the shingle jobs that we do are with laminated shingles (shakes),cutting them with a utility knife took forever, and you were always changing blades, with the shark just a push of the handle and you are done. For cutting starters it can't be beat. I found nothing wrong with the ShingleShark. I found it to be a...

3.0 out of 5 stars SHINGLE SHARK
THE SHINGLE SHARK WORKS GREAT WHEN ITS NEW. BUT NOW AFTER USING IT TO HELP ME INSTALL ABOUT 300 SQ THE FIXED BLADE IS NO LONGER STRAIGHT BUT HAS A CURVE WORN IN IT WHERE IT GETS THE MOST USE. FOR WHAT YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE THING THEY SHOULD MAKE THE BLADES CHANGABLE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Time and money saver, September 29, 2005

I used this shingle cutter or shear to cut heavy laminated shingles. If you have ever tried to cut these when they wear cold, you will know what I'm talking about. If you do alot of shingling this is a must have tool.Like any other tool,if it is taken care of and adjusted from time to time it will last forever. If you ever needed a new blade,a machine shop could make one easy enough. It was worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shingle Shark 1000Q Shingle Cutter - My Comments, September 6, 2005

This is a MUST have item if you plan to re-roof yourself! I wouldn't even consider working without one.....seriously. This was my first roofing project (I did an overlay) and I can say I'm very pleased with its performance. Pros: provides clean cross-cuts, easy cutting of ridge caps, angled valley cuts. Cons: it did a lousy job of cutting lengthwise ("ripping" of a shingle) of the starter course, and I had a difficult time getting some exact width sizes cut (while trying to cut lengthwise on a 36 inch shingle). I finally gave up and resorted to cutting some shingles by hand. I bought it mainly for lengthwise cuts (poor job on lengths of 36 inches, and some widths), but found the real value in cross-cutting. However, the good still greatly outweighs this bad experience. Another Con might be the longevity of the blade (as commented by someone else after 300 square). My roof was 22 square and the blade shows only slight use and doesn't show any signs of failure. Not sure about using it on more than 10 roofs though. All in all, a great buy for me and WELL worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars WELL THOUGHT OUT AND WELL BUILT, June 3, 2002
This review is from: Qualcraft 1000B Shingle Shark Shingle Cutter (Tools & Home Improvement)
I HAVE HAD THE CUTTER FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS AND FOUND THAT THE GUYS TEND TO FIGHT OVER WHO GETS TO CARRY IT UP BECAUSE THEY WANT IT FOR THEMSELVES!! THE CUTTER HANDLES THE STRAIGHT CUTS WITH EASE, AND THE LONG VALLY CUTS ARE VERY EASY TO SETUP. THE GUIDE IS VERY WELL DESIGNED AND EASY TO SET. IT ALSO COMES WITH COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS TO ADJUST THE BLADE ANYTIME INSTEAD OF HAVING TO BUY NEW ONES!!! I SEE A LOT OF LABOR SAVINGS ALREADY. THANKS BUNKY

4.0 out of 5 stars Is it worth it?, June 4, 2008
This review is from: Qualcraft 1000B Shingle Shark Shingle Cutter (Tools & Home Improvement)
After being shown the operation of this piece of equipment, I had to have one. This is a very sweet piece of equipment. However, is it worth it?

Do you realise that a good heavy duty paper cutter will do the same thing. Granted a regular paper cutter will not "rip" a shingle long way but that is why they make knives for, its faster just to take your knive and cut it.

Some manufacturers still make all metal units that are aroung $20.00. The blades do go dull but no faster than this unit does and at 1 tenth the price you could by 10 for this one.

Now during cold days when the shingles are cold, this cutter by far is superior to paper cutters in that you can realy put some preasure on it and never have to worry about breaking it.

Use your best judgment, but I would buy another if I had to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up!, March 12, 2007

Wish I had a shingle cutter like this years ago. Time saved making quick accurate cuts pays for this cutter in no time flat. I build gazebos and nearly every shingle requires a miter cut. The easily adjustable miter fence makes cutting any angle a breeze. After more than a thousand cuts on dimensional asphalt shingles there seems to be no appreciable wear on the blade and it still cuts like new. One word of caution, however. The cutting action requires a somewhat forceful chomp of the cutting arm. While the blade is not particularly sharp (much like a paper cutter), keep your fingers well away from the blade during the cutting action. There is no finger guard, thus the slightly lower rating. This machine performs well but needs to be respected for safe operation.

Well worth the money, it saved me hours of cutting. I am a Residential Contractor and used it building my own house. I only used it for my roof (40 SQ), so I don't know how well it would cut after a few roofs. I do mostly remodeling, but, consider it money well spent.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Qualcraft 1000B Shingle Shark Shingle Cutter (Tools & Home Improvement)
This cutter works well for straight cuts. We found that it was faster to use a utility knife to cut the starter courses. To insure we got straight cuts we used a bolt to hold the guide in place. Overall it saves time on big projects. We completed a 20 square job and it insures good clean cuts. It would have helpful to know how to set it up for cutting angles. Also that you could not cut the cap singles.
