Qualitative Data Analysis with NVivo

To prepare a qualitative research, NVivo is one of the popular softwares for handling qualitative data. This book is an easy-to-understand reading for any researchers to begin their qualitative research. The book presents from an easy to more in-depth way which assists the reader to use the software in a comfortable way. This book is also a good guidance of the latest version of NVivo (even thought version 8 is now promoted by QSR.)

However, if I were giving a comment on the book, the presetation will be more clearer if more graphics (i.e. application screens) were used.

In general, this is a highly recommended book for researchers who are preparing to conduct their qualitative researches.

Bazeley addresses crucial aspects of managing documents and the nuts and bolts of actually working with qualitative data - such as when to do transcriptions (and to what depth), how to code data, how to manage a literature review, and how to build up models and concepts from that data and codes.

This is a book I wished I had during my coursework and when I first started doing qualitative research. It would have saved me a good year of thrashing around, trying to invent my own ways of doing tasks that other books (an advisors!!) forgot to mention or thought were just obvious.

The book also very helpfully points out how to do these tasks in Nvivo, of course. Some of that guidance is becoming out of date, which is why I'm only giving the book 4 stars. Researchers can now directly work with video, for instance, in NVivo 9, so some of the steps Bazeley lists are not needed. But for a solid, detailed-packed book on HOW to manage the huge data sets often involved in qualitative research, get this one!

I found this book is good for everyone who plans to start doing qualitative research. The format and structure of this book made the reader getting some instance ideas to further their analysis especially using content analysis and interview as their research method.

I was hoping this book would help me to get started with NVivo but it just confused me more. If you have never used NVivio before this is not the book to start with. It gives general information about coding and working with data but it is absolutely not a tutorial on how to set up and use NVivo for beginners.
