I use the QRI word lists as a quick reading assessment for my students. The narratives provide a way to do an in-depth review of students' reading skills. The tests included enabled me to test for reading rate, miscues, and comprehension in a organized and easily understood manner.

The QRI-4 text is an easy read even though it is full of information. The layout of the tests, scoring sheets, and explanations are easy to understand and easy to make copies for testing purposes. I have used the QRI-4 many times and found it very quick and easy to use. I would recommend the QRI-4 for any educator looking to find reading levels for students.

My wife needed an IRI for a recent course. She reported that this book provides different types of readings as opposed to just the story narrative form. The directions for using the IRI were clear and the typeset on the word lists is sharp. She says she is very pleased with this investment and expect to use it in her classroom in the future.

I ordered this book new back in August for a class I was taking. I finally discovered a serious flaw in the book in December: it was missing 30 pages from the testing section that left me unable to do anything. If that wasn't bad enough, an number of the readings for level 6 were missing from the pdf files on the CD-ROM. I spoke with Allyn-Bacon, the publisher, about the problem and they were unwilling to back up their product. Neither was Amazon. They would not even exchange it. I won't be buying books from Amazon again, particularly text books. I am going to go ahead and purchase the QRI 5 which was released this year and hopefully all will be in order, but BE CAREFUL with your purchases of this book! The material was sound, the information was good, and well written, it was just missing a whole section.

I have been using the QRI3 for many years and was very happy that a new version was out with new stories. There are plenty of new stories in this version. It was nice to give a student something they had not memorized or where not familiar with.

It's an excellent book. I used it as an informal assessment tool for my Special Education students. I highly recommend this book to any educator.

I am using this for the first time. The QRI is easy to use, research based (one of my past extremely knowledgeable professors,Lori Ladiges, helped in testing/scoring/interpretation), and gives an authentic assessment tool for teachers to use.

This is an important resource for anyone working in the field of K-12 education. The text teaches you how to use the assessment tool and provides assessment materials for students at all reading levels. This book was required for a class I am taking, and Amazon's price was much better than the student bookstore's price. The text also comes with a CD for easy access to assessment materials.

If you are as overwhelmed by the lack of research based assessments for benchmarks and progress monitoring tools THIS is the holy grail of research based assessement tools.
Rather than reinventing the wheel when it comes to assessments, this is the quite possibly the most simple to implement, easy to understand, and efficient examples of how to implement research based assessments.
Perfect for anyone in the preservice or practicing field of education. The range of grade levels is from primary to high school and are easily adaptable for students who need accomodations or modifications as well. What more could you ask for!
I will be implementing these assessments in my classroom as well as during the tutoring clinic I am participating in for struggling readers. Enables teachers who are unfamiliar with how to gauge student responses in comprehension to help narrow down where the student is having difficulty-then provides ample examples to help the students that are struggling improve!

If you are familiar at all with the Flynt & Cooter IRI, you will love the QRI-4. You have stories with pictures, and without pictures, and now you do not need to find words lists like "San Diego Quick." This books gives you everything you need. Why didn't I give it a 5 then? I wish they would have organized it better than they did.
