The most poorly edited book in history,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Quality Assurance for Dynamics AX-Based ERP Solutions: Verifying Dynamics AX customization to the Microsoft IBI Standards (Paperback)
I give credit to the Author Anil Gupta for writing the book, but the publisher PACKT Publishing is at best, a shody outfit with a collective grasp of English as good as any English as a first language, 4 year old. It is blindingly obvious the review process by PACKT was rudimentary at best.
Amazon also need a good kick up the proverbial as this book is recommended reading for anything related to Dynamics AX 2009, yet this book is written around outdated Dynamics AX 4.0, SQL Server 2005 and a bunch of other technologies no longer sold by Microsoft. If you interested in this book from a Dynamics 2009 perspective, DO NOT ORDER THIS BOOK. Anil, please update this book for current technologies. It has some excellent concepts. Please dump PACKT and get yourself a publisher which adds at least an iota of value to the thousands of hours you spent writing the book. Great introduction to Dynamics AX solutions development & project management,
This review is from: Quality Assurance for Dynamics AX-Based ERP Solutions: Verifying Dynamics AX customization to the Microsoft IBI Standards (Paperback)
This is a great book for any developer or even functinal guy who doesn't know much about Dynamics AX and wants to get a good briefing about the most important points regarding quality when developing, implementing and deploying a ERP project based on Dynamics AX. I really recommend it, it is not too long so it is "easy reading", but it has good "recipes" coming from real experience in the field, as you can tell when reading this book.
This book focus on kind of things which are critical for any AX project but you might not be aware when you just learn technical or functional aspects about AX (regular courses), that's why I beleive it is very interesting. César de la Torre Microsoft MBS-ISV Developer Evangelist Microsoft - DPE

What a crock....,

I haven't read the whole book but then again, I didn't have to. In the introduction to ERP, the author states that ERP systems are rigid and difficult to modify. I have worked with this product back when it was known as Axapta before Microsoft purchased it. One of the primary concepts and structure of Axapta that was introduced with Axapta was an easy to modify system which does not require you to change your business processes! And that has not changed under Microsoft.
So if you decide to buy this book, be forewarned that the ideas presented may not be correct. And if the author got something so basic as what are the drawbacks of an ERP system with regards to Dynamics AX, I hate to think of what else he may have gotten wrong.

The book "Quality Assurance for Dynamics Ax-based ERP systems" was released early last year and it has taken me a while to get a copy and read it.
The book is perfect if you build vertical or horizontal solutions for Ax as it is packed with best-practices and hints on how to achieve a high quality solution. It's full of lists with checkpoints and their expected results especially within the GUI chapter. It has a whole chapter on how to maintain Trustworthy Computing and the Testing chapter takes the reader through all kinds of testing that you might want to perform. If you expect a book full how how-to's and screenshots, this book is not for you. That being said, the book is still very easy to read and should be valuable for all Ax developers. |
