Three Years Ago In The Summer Of '97 Jurassic 5 released their self titled debut EP come LP and it was embraced by the entire hip hop nation. `Concrete Schoolyard' became a instant classic. The only problem though was that at 35 minutes it was a little short and was over before you even realised. At 55 minutes however `Quality Control' is just the right length. In case you don't know Jurassic 5 are a throwback group from the mid-late 80's, they use old school beats and deliver some great flowing rhymes throughout the entire album. The album opens up with `The Influence', which just makes you, want to dance and the all the other 15 tracks on the album maintain this desire to just jump around like a mad lunatic. The beauty of Jurassic 5 is that they've spotted a niche in the Hip-Hop market that there are no happy songs out there anymore. The stand out tracks on the album are `The Influence', `WOE Is Me', `Jurass Finish First' and the 1930's sounding `Swing Set' which is just a pure DJ cut and has no vocals on it and it is just brilliant. Lyrically the album is amazing and the 4 MC's provide some amazing flow particularly Charli 2una who stands out the most. There's nothing bad I can say about the album at all except it drags on a bit in the middle but this is barely noticeable. Overall If you loved there EP you'll love this and if you don't insist on listening to it 5 times a day for the first week of owning it there is something wrong with you.

For all the airplay J5 got, they are still underappreciated. Somehow this group is able to take progressive beats and forward-thinking lyrics and build them on a foundation of old school hip-hop that works together so well, its magical. Every time I play a song from this album at a party (especially Great Expectations- the best track on QC), I get multiple people asking me to identify the incredible music.

No hip-hop fan should be without this album.

Truely inspired work, that should definently make some ripples on the rap charts. A true classic from an underground group. With four MC's and two DJ's, the album features gifted rappers and instrumental masterpieces. Chali 2na, Mark 7even, Zaakir, and Akil can flow and harmonize while having individual roles. DJ CutChemist is a genuis for his mixing. With an overall up-beat sound they defy most modern Hip-Hop, boring and repetitive. The West Coast group has a sense of responsibilty, writing great lyrics. It has an old-school feel, where the lyrics are more about battling on the mike and less concentrated on women, cash and recognition. It returns to the roots of rap, house music and political issues. I first heard the single "Quality Control" and I knew if the rest of the album was as good as the single I'd have to get it. I did and I was impressed, a great by for any underground fan or person who is tired of the same old stuff.
