This is not a skill-specific book. The content will not teach the reader how to kick a field goal, hit a home run, serve an ace, stick a dismount, or perform any other athletic feat. Rather, the book aims to help student-athletes improve--physically, mentally and emotionally--regardless of their sport; to place winning, losing and competing in a healthy perspective; to understand the varying natures of success and justice; to encourage parents and coaches to remember what's important in the long run; to explore how sport relates to the rest of our lives, as one component, among others, of our attempts to become balanced human beings.

Someone recommended this book to me because they knew I was involved in coaching basketball. This book is worth the purchase just for the first few chapters where Reggie Marra gives his personal story. To be honest, I didn't read the whole book because some of the chapters were tailored for the athlete themself, or for the parents. But Marra makes drives home a good point in the first half of the book about the importance of maximum effort.
