The list author says: "The books I have listed are ones that I have read and recommend in the fantasy genre. I'm not too picky and the list is diverse because I like all kinds of fantasy from the Harry Potter variety to the Wheel of Time sort of book. Thus, if you like fantasy and are looking for another good read, check out any of the books that I've recommended. (note: I'm only posting the 1st book in any particular series and they aren't really in any particular order....)"
"One of my new all time favorite books. This is the self narrated story of how the protaganist became a living legend.Think of it as a Dumbledore/Gandalf/Merlin/Obi-Wan/other super powerful character origin story."
"Another of my new all time favorite books. In this book, demons materialize at night time and humans hide inside their homes protected by "wards" that are drawn on the buildings and posts surrounding their shelter. Humans have lost the "combat wards" which would allow them to fight the demons..."
"Now here is a fantasy book which will throw you into a world full of witches and beasts. There's also political intrigue and warfare in this series. I love these books, I highly recommend them if you are looking for a book full of spells and magic!"
"This trilogy has adult themes. That being said, I really enjoyed these books. They feature a reality entirely different from our own in which there are three realms/dimensions...hell is one of them and "Saetan" and his two sons "Lucivar" and "Daeman" are main characters in this world where men are often held as slaves through the use of a ring around their you know what!!!"
"Great book! I'd call it a juvenile fantasy adventure book. Low on spells but there is definitely some neat stuff in this book where the characters' souls live outside of their bodies in the form of an animal! So good that they're making a movie out of this!"
"This could also be described as juvenile fantasy but it is a really good read. Paolini began writing these at 15! Amazing...once you've read a lot of fantasy you will see that a lot of his structure and themes are ones that run through most fantasy, some even claim that it is just the Star Wars story really but I don't quite agree. I can't wait for the third one of these babies!"
"EPIC FANTASY SERIES...VERY LONG AND DRAWN OUT! If you can get through the first couple honking big volumes of this series then you won't be able to stop. They are very wordy though, don't say I didnt warn you."
"AWESOME TRILOGY! There's nothing reused here. Garth Nix went over the top with this trilogy and whipped out some great context. Intriguing approach to magic useage and non-generic story featuring the Abhorsen which is the opposite of a necromancer."
"This series is great, I also recommend the trilogy which follows up the story. This is another one with lots of political intrigues in the royal court, I really like that style. It also has a good amount of magical elements. Let me warn you though, Robin Hobb beats up her characters, literally, if you like a happy go lucky feelgood book then Hobb is not the author for you."
"These are great juvenile fantasy books! Talking animals and battles and war in every one! No magic but these were the first fantasy books I ever read!"
