5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful wood
This travel humidor is so nice, you could use it for more than just travel. That said, since I do already have a non-travel humidor, I do just use this one on trips. Holds a lot of cigars (I fit at least 30 in here) and smells really nice. Looks more expensive than it is, and would make a really great gift.

I've bought many items from Amazon, but this the first time I felt compelled to write a review for a purchased item because of lack of information on this humidor. I've already have a desktop humidor box and a traveling humidor can. Unfortunately, the humidor can won't fit the 8" cigar I usually smoke. So I was hoping this would fit the need. I was considering the capri-glas top humidor, but the height of that box was 1" higher than my liking. Plus, I am going to take it with me on traveling, so the box will most likely be in places where it might be under the sun (i.e. car). Then I saw the Rivera model and thought it be the better option for me. Unfortunately, there was no description of its dimension! Uh, that's kind of important, isn't it? Especially, if it's a travel humidor. So, I ponder it for a couple of days. Looking at its photo over and over again. I finally decided to go ahead with the purchase base on the photo comparison between Rivera and Capri-glass top. I figure if nothing else, the Rivera model should be shorter in term of height.

The item arrived two days before its scheduled delivery. So that was good. I opened up the box and everything was included per item description; the humidifier, the hygrometer, the engraving plate. It didn't came with instruction for how to calibrate the hygrometer or how to season the humidor. That might be a bit of an annoyance for a first timer. But it's nothing a little search on the internet wouldn't solve. Anyway, the first thing I did was take out my ruler and measure the interior dimension. To my chagrin, the interior measured 9.5"x7.75"x1.5" (exterior is 10.5"x8.75"x2.75"). It will fit my 8" Cubano only in horizontal position, leaving about 1.5" of empty space...

I then start the task of calibrating the hygrometer and seasoning the box. Put the meter in a zip lock bag along with a teaspoon of damp salt in it. Woke up the next morning, check on the reading, the meter reads 60. Um, okay, maybe it just need a little more time. So I left it in the bag and went to work. When I came back from work, the reading still indicate 60. I thought to myself, "WTF! This thing is off by +15!?" I decided to take the meter out of the bag anyway and went ahead with the seasoning process. I figured if it really is off by how much I think it is, then the reading should be 55 by the time seasoning is done. Sure enough, 8 hours later, the meter reads 55.

Basically, it's an exquisite humidor (for its price) with a really crappy hydrometer! As of now, I am still testing the meter's reading to see if the +15 margin is really accurate. If it is, then I'll probably keep this crappy hygrometer and just live with the error. Otherwise, I might have to invest in another hygrometer... Lastly, I think all humidor should at the very least, list its interior dimension so people can decide if it's the right size for their purpose or not.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as it should have been, June 29, 2011

The humidor is real pretty, packed well. There are no instructions for a first timer on how to season. The humidifier has no instructions either, and the peel off sticky pad had no stick, I had to use rubber cement to attach it to the box, which I hope doesn't affect the smell and taste of the el-cheapo brands I can afford. But, it is a pretty box. As for instructions thank Al Gore for the internet! ehow.com has instructions for both seasoning and using the humidifier.
Update day 3: The rubber cement is not going to hold the humidifier's metal mount in place.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm happy, November 29, 2011

Bought a box of nice cigars for my daughters birth, and promptly realized I was not going to be able to hand them all out quick enough. So I bought my first humidor. This one.

It's a nice enough looking box. I seasoned it for 2 weeks with a 84% Boveda packet. It's now sitting at 70% RH using a 72% Boveda packet with 10 or so cigars inside.

I was tired of wasting money on cigars only to have them dry out if I didn't smoke them within a week, so I decided to finally buy a humidor. I didn't need anything fancy and didn't want to spend too much money. This box turned out to be perfect for my needs. I only ever have a few cigars in my possession at a time, so the compact size is not an issue and makes for easy storage. Construction seems very solid and all joints and angles are nice and clean. I do not see any issue with the box's seal either. The simple test for this is to lift the lid and let it drop under it's own weight. If it's a hard, sharp slam then the seal is not there. If it's a "muted" thud when it slams, the seal is present.

I only have two minor complaints. As other reviewers have noted, is that the glue that is supposed to hold the humidifier's magnet to the box lid was completely dry. The humidifier appears to be just a sponge in a plastic casing anyway, so I decided to go with a single Drymistat Humidifier Tube (available on Amazon) which seems to work perfectly and claims to keep the humidor at a constant 70% humidity. My other complaint is that the box is sometimes hard to open, as there are no exterior handles or latches. Because the box seals when you close it, it takes some effort to open the lid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite Satisfied, October 6, 2011
This review is from: Quality Importers Travel Humidor, Traveler 20 (Kitchen)
My purchase arrived promptly at the time provided. It has a beautiful finish. The glue to hold the humidifier was dried, however that wasn't an issue at all and I'd definitely recommend this product for the cost.

4.0 out of 5 stars Travel Humidor Keeps Cigars Fresh, May 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Quality Importers Travel Humidor, Traveler 20 (Kitchen)
I haven't smoked in a little over a decade, but recently, Rocky Patel got me started again. Rather than purchase individual Cigars, I decided to try a vendor from one of the southern states, buying boodles at a discount rather than an entire box. That way I could experiment with some of the newer cigars.

This travel humidor is a very decent quality wood, hinges work well and the keep my new cigars fresh.

For the price, and for anyone beginning or on a budget, this is a great little humidor to start off with.

1.0 out of 5 stars Humidor, March 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It took a while for me to get mine seasoned. The seal was good, but the wood was just so thirsty. The hygrometer that came with it was a piece of junk, but it does the job. It's not a show humidor by a long shot, but as far as keeping your cigars in good condition, it does the job.

***UPDATE***
I have now thrown this humidor away because it was a piece of junk. I thought the seal was good. Nope. Even using distilled water to season this thing and having some PG solution in a drymistat gel tube, it still eventually molded and would never hold RH. Luckily I had already taken my cigars out.

I was very impressed with the quality of this humidor. The wood was beautiful, and it sealed very well. It was a gift for my husband, and he was really impressed with it. The only thing I wasn't pleased with was that the humidifier came with no filling instructions (tap water vs. filtered water), and there was nothing to affix it to the lid. Other than that, I was very pleased with this product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Seal Quality, December 29, 2010

The humidor looks great from the outside, but unfortunately I had to return it as it failed to have an acceptable seal on the box, causing an inability to hold proper/consistent humidity. I will not buy from Quality Importers again because of this experience, craftsmanship could have been much better.
