This review is from: Quality Management (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
I was not looking forward to my course in Quality Managment.
I have completed chapter 8 (late January) The book is very well written and very readable. I an happily surprised with how well the author presents the chapter topics. This is probably the best (written) textbook I have read in the past three years. I hope the rest of the book is as equally well written. There is no plan to change my major to Quality Engineering. If all Quality books were written this readable, I might. Add in: After finishing the semester and the book, I continue to be impressed with the authorship of the book. I upgraded the rating from 4 to 5 starts and highly recommend the book.

The text was a good overview of total quality management principles verse a traditional approach; however, I would have like to see more information on quality tools and statistical analysis.

This review is from: Quality Management (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
This has turned out to be a great text book. I am sure I will refer back to it often. Initially, I was a little intimidated by the size of the book and small print. However, it is easy to read. The summaries at the end of each chapter are very helpful.

Great resource - A Text book to keep handy,
This review is from: Quality Management for Organizational Excellence: Introduction to Total Quality (6th Edition) (Hardcover)
Goetsch & Davis (2010) Quality Management for Organizational Excellence is an intriguing text that encompasses many aspects of quality management. The text is divided into two sections; section one discusses philosophy and concepts; section two identifies tools and techniques. What intrigues me about this book is the all-encompassing nature; many other text books hone one concept or concepts relating to a specific area in quality management, while this book has a greater breadth on quality.
Chapter one of section one lays the framework for the text by discussing the philosophy of Deming, Juran, and Crosby on quality (Goetsch & Davis, 2010, pp. 13-19). The chapters that follow in section one identify and explain how the concepts should be viewed based upon the "key elements of total quality" (Goetsch & Davis, 2010, p. 10). The design of the chapters within this section will give readers a very good understanding on the why and how of quality management. Section two identifies and explains tools and techniques to implement quality management into an organization; histograms, Pareto charts, and selecting the right tool for the job are a few of the topics discussed. This section also contains problem solving techniques, and discusses quality function deployment, statistical process control, Six Sigma, lean, JIT, and benchmarking. The target audience of Goetsch & Davis (2010) Quality Management for Organizational Excellence is undergraduate students; however, I view it as an excellent capstone book giving MBA students a review of quality management concepts and tools. The authors provide some excellent end of chapter reviews and follow on recommendations. The chapter summary, factual review questions, and critical thinking activities provide an abundance of questions the reader can ask themselves to further their understanding. It is not practical to encompass all there is to know about quality management into one book; however Goetsch & Davis (2010) Quality Management for Organizational Excellence is an excellent source for information and explanation of major topics in quality management. The design is meant to be an overview of quality management and in that case it is an excellent resource. However, if you seek in-depth information for each concept, look somewhere other than the book publisher's website, as the site is dysfunctional and a very poor resource.

This review is from: Quality Management for Organizational Excellence: Introduction to Total Quality (6th Edition) (Hardcover)
This book is well writen and easy to read. However, the information is basic at best and the text lacks real world examples. This book would be fine for a freshmen level course, but is ill suited for higher level course work.

The quality of information is superb. The book is a little hard to pick up at points but overall easy reading. The statistical examples looked very well done and helpful. Overall I am very pleased with the accessibility and content covered.

I received my goods in speedy time and while there was a very little bit of damage to the corners, I fixed it with tape and all is like new.
