5.0 out of 5 stars Quality
The sound quality of this album is'nt quite as good as duck and cover but the songs are brilliant such as distress, the bell tower and sad Reggie. This is a ska cd thats definatley worth picking up as the music seems to get better every time you hear it (which for me is quite a few times now). 3.0 out of 5 stars Um... no.
A friend of mine that heard I'm a big fan of ska and punk suggested this band. It's really neither of those. It doesn't sound REALLY BAD, but it's not something I would leave in my player for weeks like I do with better ska/punk bands like Catch 22 and Rancid, which I would recommend over this in a heartbeat.

If this goofy stuff is your style, whatever...

The sound quality of this album is'nt quite as good as duck and cover but the songs are brilliant such as distress, the bell tower and sad Reggie. This is a ska cd thats definatley worth picking up as the music seems to get better every time you hear it (which for me is quite a few times now). For a first album how the band play together and combine the instruments in the way they do shows that there is quite a bit of talent in this band which to be fair you cant say about alot of ska bands. Below is how i would rank the mad caddies albums to date in order and would recommened you get them in.

1.Duck and cover
2.Quality softcore
3.Just one more
4.Rock the plank
5.The holiday has been cancelled

With quality softcore Chuck (the lead singer) seems to have a more reggae edge to his voice i dont know why i noticed that . Another thing that makes this album sound so good is the way the guitar rings on no se the guitar solo on sad Reggie is pretty good aswell so buy this album second to duck and cover if your looking for some top quality ska music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Way Better Than Duck and Cover, October 14, 2000

This review is from: Quality Soft Core (Audio CD)
"Quality Soft Core" compares to the Suicide Machines' "Destruction by Definition" as one of the best blends of ska and punk that I've ever heard. This album has more song variation than any other Honest Don's release, and it is definitely the best cd the label has ever put out. If you're a fan of fast punk, you'll probably like this cd more than "Duck and Cover" because alot of the songs songs on "Quality Soft Core" begin as heavy ska-reggae tracks and burst into fast, distorted stuff. All of the tracks on this cd are really good, but the stand outs include "Distress" and "No Se".

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Ska-core from the Mad Mad Cads, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Quality Soft Core (Audio CD)
I absolutely love this CD! It ranges from straight up ska to moshpit punk with a little of everything else thrown in as well. Not at all "just another ska-punk band" these Caddies have lots of talent, an ear for melody and a very tight horn section. "Despair" and "Cup of Tea" alone are worth the price of admission. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mad Caddies, Kings of Ska!!, August 27, 1998

If you're into ska you can't pass up the Mad Caddies. This cd is awesome, the two guitarists play off eachother amazingly well, which is refreshing in third-wave ska. There is actually some complicated guitar work going on, instead of the constant upbeat seen in most other ska bands. The horn players are great too! Pick this cd up. you won't regret it! (Don't forget to check out there new one "Duck and Cover").

5.0 out of 5 stars Ska bands always seem to loose there horns later., March 17, 2002
This review is from: Quality Soft Core (Audio CD)
How come with most ska bands their first records always seem to be the greatest then they gradually loose the horns. And it isnt pop-ska like ltj its got the regaee roots and even a bit of country in this masterpiece. There are a few lashings of punk but this is mainly ska, thats why i love it. Sad Reggie is one of the finest songs i have ever heard, even my dad likes it, it has a awesome guitar solo from the bionic hand. Chuck seems to have the whole regaee voice on this record and the horns are amazing. The title doesnt lie quality soft core.

5.0 out of 5 stars SKA, December 18, 2001
This review is from: Quality Soft Core (Audio CD)
How anyone can refer to this as poppy i dont know. This cd is the best purchase you will ever make along with Duck and cover and anything by the toasters. the best tracks are L.G'S, sad reggie (brilliant solo) and Distress. The sound quality of the record isnt brilliant its good though if only they had stuck with there brilliant early genre unlike the 3 star rating (my opinion) rock the plank. Anyway its good buy it. Also check out the holiday has been cancelled.
