Intense and disturbing.,

I found this album fascinating; definately the best Whitehouse I've heard, and some of the best Noise. Listening to it all the way through while reading a lyric sheet is a challenge. The noise is so grating and the lyrics so unrelenting that after a half hour of listening my head hurts. The complete absense of structure has a maddening sort of hypnotic, sadomasochistic effect; it's almost painful. (I've heard this material can damage your ears at high volumes in ways normal music can't.)
Some Whitehouse songs bore me, like those relatively calm tracks with steady white and pink noise and no lyrics. There's nothing like that here; everything is pretty creative. Even the cover art and insert. I won't listen to this again for a little while, it would kill my ears. But it's probably the most intense Noise album I've heard. |
