It's challenging and fun to learn the mastery of making different sounds from these small devices. Do the birds answer? No idea but I did see several cock their heads - maybe it was trying to figure out what the dummy on the porch was up to.

Not recommended for smaller children; they might swallow it. For children old enough to not put everything in their mouths and adults who enjoy birds, they should enjoy this bird whistle.

As much as I wanted to write a rave review about this brand of bird whistle, I just can't say it got me too excited over its quality of chirp and tweet. The metallic twister more often than not doesn't produce a guaranteed bird sound. Even adding the included resin powder to the device didn't help too much. I found my fingers tiring quickly gripping the brass knurled cylinder. In all honesty, I was able to better emit a bird whistle using my mouth.

I found the "Audubon Bird Call" to be easier to use but getting 2 was a good value. The sound is a little different but still makes for a good prank.

This item is not a whistle in the sense that you blow through it; instead it is a sqeaky wheel reduced to the essentials: a wooden part that can be turned on a metal
axle and which has some friction added by some resin. If you turn it and apply the
right pressure, you get some squeaking noises, like a wheel in need of some oil.
Not particular like a bird. As child's toy, it depends on the age: it is a bit
difficult to get the right amount of pressure, with too much it sets so you cannot turn it, and you have to pull it apart again; with too little there is no sound.
It is very cheap, but gives also only very little playvalue. One more toy
to lie around. I and my children found the real bird calls (much more expensive)
more interesting to play with.
So, unless you need a cheap gift for children you do not particular like,
I would advice to buy a real bird call.
