5.0 out of 5 stars A nice break from all of the serious reading I do, April 3, 2009
This review is from: Quality Workday Distractions (Paperback)
Because of all of the heartless spankings Jeff has administered to me on the foosball table (and afterwards we played foosball), I basically hate Jeff and wanted with all of my might to hate the book too. But I just couldn't bring myself to do that. It's just too darned funny. I've read both covers and am hoping to get to the inside pages real soon. I jest. Seriously, this book will make you chuckle, for sure.

Jeff has a knack for satire, wit, and comic writing. And his vocabulary is a lot gooder than most. The book is filled with intelligent, well-written, pleasntly-sarcastic gems, and is, like the man, said, a quality work day distraction.

If you have a sense of humor and don't take life too seriously, you will not be disappointed with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yay!, April 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Quality Workday Distractions (Paperback)
The "Free Band Names" featured throughout this book (band names posted on www.usedwigs.com that were adopted by musicians all over the globe) is worth the price alone. "Unintentionally Gay Music Videos" is hilarious (and accurate), as are the reviews of popular American bands in Haiku form. The book closes with a heartwarming and funny tribute to Jeff's dad, Don. Overall: Well-written, intelligent, funny stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars UsedWigs named my imaginary band, April 2, 2009
This review is from: Quality Workday Distractions (Paperback)
I've been a reader of UsedWigs.com for a long while now. I was originally drawn in by the stellar music reviews and the hilarious Cap'n Cranky movie critiques, but over the years I've also become hooked on Jeff's satirical 'news' stories. Quality Workday Distractions highlights some of the site's all time best:

A few favorites include 'Much-Heralded Office Shower Becomes Less-Heralded Storage Area', 'Prince Hooks Up with Fat Chick - Rommies Rejoice' and of course the classic 'Man Prefers Kiddie Pool Over Beach'. And what really makes the book stand out are the priceless photos that accompany the written 'nonsense'.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with a sense of humor...also, a perfect gift for the college student or disgruntled coworker in your life. Check it out...you will certainly enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Because I can't take my laptop in the bathroom., April 1, 2009
This review is from: Quality Workday Distractions (Paperback)
I am obsessed with pop culture thus I was drawn to [...] for my daily fix of irrelevant fun. When I saw that Jeff Lyons had taken some of this best pieces together and put them into a conveniently bound volume, I had to have it.

Simply put, Quality Workday Distractions is the best time waster I have ever spent around 15 bucks for. I can take it with me everywhere. I have read it in all different locations; on the bus, in the bathtub, and sky diving. I found that it was difficult to do the same with my desktop computer. So when I am not online at usedwigs, I can be found getting my fix from this fantastic book.

Intelligent and laugh out loud funny, I would recommend it to anyone who knows how to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Please buy Jeff's book, April 1, 2009
This review is from: Quality Workday Distractions (Paperback)
Jeff Lyons used to beat me up when I was a kid. He told me that if I didn't write a glaringly positive review of his book that he and his brother DJ would be "paying me a visit." So please, buy this totally awesome, insanely hilarious book and tell all your friends to do the same. Thank you. - Jim Keady

Jeff Lyons is one funny guy. Some of my favorite pics from this read are: "Spee D'oh!", "I Own an Old Person Phone", "Ultra - Marathoner Admits he Just Hates His Family", and "Hi, My Name is Jeff and Sometimes I Smell Like Poop". Curious? You should be. This book is a tasty appetizer to one of heck of a comedy entree,[..] .

I heard this book was totally awesome, I loved the pictures. If I could read, I would read it but people who can read it told me it was super. As soon as I learn to read, this is the first book I'm going to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read for Distracted Times, March 31, 2009

I needed to find a good read to kill some of the commute time during a recent vacation - i.e. sitting in the airport, sitting on the plane, reading in between bouts of turbulence and the frequent restroom breaks of the person sitting next to me. This was the perfect book. It had short, well written stories that kept me smiling. Jeff is an excellent story teller. My favorite short stories: I Own An Old Person Phone, Smokers Stay Healthy In the Workplace and My Fun Dad. Quality Workday Distractions is a great purchase for your self or the "I have no idea what gift to buy that person."
