ABSOLUTELY THE WORST TEXTBOOK FROM A STUDENT'S PERSPECTIVE,
By A Customer
This review is from: Quantitative Methods for Business (Hardcover)
I am currently taking a Quant Meth class which is using this as the textbook. By far, this is the worst textbook I have ever encountered as a student. It is hard to understand and the answers that are given in the back do not explain how to get to the final solution. Because the problems are not paired (that is 1 is not like 2, 3 is not like 4, etc.) and the only answers are to the EVEN problems, you are basically lost. There is a website for the 9th edition that is "under construction" currently, so there is no help there. This is not a book conducive to learning. Teachers and colleges - PLEASE think twice before you choose this for your curriculum. Both you and your students will be miserable!

Quantitative Methods 8th Edition,

I am a professor using this book to teach a graduate level Quantitative Methods math class. This book is hard to understand for the students. Exercises included at the end of the chapters are hard to figure for the student based on what is presented in the text alone. For the instructor, no teacher support is available except a solutions manual. All other texts I have used provides sample lecture material, additional cases, etc. This text provides no such support with a useless web site.

This textbook is TERRIBLE!,

This review is from: Quantitative Methods for Business with EasyQuant Tutor for Excel (Hardcover)
This book is written in unnecessarily complicated language and does not present information in a way that is easily understood. I teach graduate courses in quantitative methods and I made the mistake of ordering this book for one of my courses without reading it first. It was a disaster!
Unless you are getting a doctorate and need to know lots of complicated formulas without adequate explanations, DO NOT buy this book.

Quant Methods Book,

This review is from: Quantitative Methods for Business, with CD-ROM, 9th edition (Hardcover)
I have used this textbook for an upper level math class and although the book was hard to follow, I really feel that it did present the information in a well laid out format. Some of the words were hard to grasp, but as for the problems in the back, I found them very useful. I hope anyone out there will in fact give this book a chance.

Quantitative Methods for Business (with Printed Access Card) (Hardcover),

I agree with many of the comments of frustration in the lower rated reviews, it could be a better book if...the website offered examples that could be worked; if the problems answered in Appendix G were worked out in detail so the information were easier to comprehend to improve understanding for testing and application in life; Since I purchased the book they now offer it in digital or e-book format and separate chapters also at [...] (this is a very large heavy book)
It should not be used as an undergraduate text unless advanced math and statistics courses were taken in the same year as a pre requisite, it covers very advanced and difficult material to comprehend at any level but could be a good book as a post graduate course under the aforementioned circumstances. There is very little useful material online or in book stores, etc. that offer additional information about the subjects covered in this book to help learn the material so I can understand why this book was chosen. I hope the authors read these reviews and take the responses into consideration for their next version of this book "Quantitative Methods for Business" version 11e. I am rating it as 3 stars now but I would add one star if the improvement was made to the next version.

This is a Very Good Book (10th ed),

I am a professor and have used this book for several years in my undergraduate quantitative methods course. The book is quite clear and easy to teach from. I have had very few complaints about it from my students. The book covers the important quantitative methods that an undergraduate business student should know, and uses only the mathematics necessary to present these methods properly. The material in each chapter is correctly presented as useful for managerial decision making. Decision making is the key, and it is ultimately the purpose for businesses to use quantitative methods. The book makes this important point very clear in most chapters. Typically, the book presents one main business problem per chapter, then builds on that problem, showing how to develop the problem solution as the chapter progresses. Once solved, other similar type problems are addressed in some chapters. Not all exercises at the end of the chapters are useful, but most are, and it is simple to pick and choose to get a good set of student problems. The "Quantitative Methods In Action" sections are quite useful to show students how these methods are really used in the business world by real companies. This book is practical, application oriented, requires a minimal amount of mathematics, and is not at all difficult to read and understand. I do not know personally the authors, and I have never had any communication with them, but I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn basic quantitative methods. In my opinion, it serves that purpose quite admirably.

The text starts out nice and smooth, and matches end of chapter work to chapter material. Then, all hell breaks loose and you cannot understand a thing as early as chapter 3. Nothing in the reading matches or educates students on any of the end of chapter problems. I spent an entire term deciphering these clown's textbook which was so distracting and unnecessary that I felt cheated and conned by the authors and publisher. Not to mention, it's one of the most expensive textbooks you get buy. Teachers love any textbook. They have all the answers and have fancy little programs to make tests and quizzes for them. Most students hate it and it should be thrown out of our universities. Pray you get an instructor that recognizes this awful masterpiece and properly educates you in real-world Quantitative Methods. The Access card provides you nothing but more misery! It is no help and provides no programs or help worth a flip. There are computer programs available that assist in doing these problems. Everything is accomplished on a computer now days and we should be learning how to execute problems electronically as if we live and learn in 2011. My future employer is going to look at the way I solve their Quantatative issues in handwritten long-form and fire me thanks to this textbook. Thanks a lot for this disaster Cengage!!! :[

This textbook is 1 - very long. 2 - very convoluted. 3- Asks problems you cant find good examples of ANYWHERE. This honestly was a terrible book for the class. The chapters were way too long, and the information was badly explained. They make a lot of leaps assuming you will just automatically remember how to do the intermediate steps, when most people have taken their prior math courses years before. Their examples need to be way more detailed, and actually relevant to the problems at the end of each chapter. It would be very useful to have a solution manual for this course so you can see if you are doing the problems correctly, but I don't think they offer one. All they have are a few answers in the back which don't show you any of the intermediate steps or how they got there at all - its pretty useless if you're actually trying to use it to help you learn.

This assigned text is a real slog for someone with no prior experience of QM but a reasonably good grounding in math. The study guide (sold separately) does not add clarity to the subject although it does provide explained solutions. I saved myself from being overwhelmed by taking a chance on Buglear, QM for Business, The A-Z of QM and was well rewarded.

This is the most terrible textbook I have ever used. It makes the already difficult theory even more difficult, not enough examples and explanation. The exercises are extremely hard.
