Quantitative Methods In Project Management by John C. Goodpasture (President and Founder of Square Peg Consulting, a consulting firm specializing in the field of project management) is a straightforward business guide to calculating project values and using basic metrics to measure success. Written especially for corporate and governmental project workers who are not necessarily advanced students of mathematical theory, Quantitative Methods In Project Management carefully , clearly, and comprehensively walks the reader through its mathematical formulas and principles, and is a great resource for learning how to quickly and accurately access the worth of a project goal.

I read this book cover to cover. It started a bit slow, and I don't necessarily find a lot of value in his introduction of the project balance sheet concept, though it is a neat concept and may be of value to some. The meat is really after that (but I would read it all since it flows nicely). I found it enjoyable, and a nice primer on some topics many PMs never get into. The last section on Quantitative Contract management seemed like an after thought, or a rush to finish - it was accurate but not as thorough or elaborative as the rest of the book. All that being said, I find this book to be a 4 out of 5 because PMs do not get as good of a foundation in this material as much as they should - there are few books that cover it at all as a focus topic, and John does a good job doing just that. A 2nd edition is likely overdue.

This book is good as an overview to give you a starting point of what you can use as quantitative methods in managing projects. However the book contains mathematical errors, not typos but actual reasoning errors ... use with caution.
