I am a frequent canker core sufferer, and have a bottle of orajel/anbesol in every purse as a result. As anyone who suffers from canker sores knows, they provide VERY temporary relief, forget about if you are trying to eat or drink anything (and it makes everything taste nasty to boot).

I thought I would give these a try, because during a particularly bad canker sore I was getting desperate. The first time I put it on backwards (it's hard to tell which side is which unless you have very good lighting), and surprisingly it gave a little relief. When I put it on the right way, though, my pain was totally gone and I could eat or drink anything, even canker sore horrors like pineapple, without pain. This thing is a miracle. And unlike some people who said it didn't last 8 hours, mine didn't go away for more than 24 hours; I eventually had to peel it off.

The reason it gets 4 stars is because it's kind of ugly. My canker sore happened to be right below my bottom front teeth, and it forms a sort of gel that makes it look like I ate a lot of cheese and haven't brushed my bottom teeth in weeks. If it's in the back it probably doesn't matter, but I wouldn't wear this before a first date unless you want to look like you live in the woods.

The important thing, though, is that it WORKS!

PROs: The product does take away the intense pain. The minty flavor doesn't make me as nauseated as the licorice flavor of Canker Melts

CONs: Because the Canker Cover is shaped like a thick tablet, I don't see how it is possible to use this product on mouth ulcers that are between the front lips and the teeth or on the tongue-- I tested it. You certainly can't talk or go out in public with this gooey, thick disk sticking to these areas. It may be different if the ulcer was located on the inside of the cheek. As far as removal, I agree with some of the other Amazon customers-- you definitely have to remove some of the goo that has been left over from night-time use--but be CAREFUL, removing down to the mucosa does cause abrasion.

End Comments: This patch should be reformulated to be MUCH thinner for easier use.

This review is from: Quantum Health Canker Cover Oral Canker Sore Patch, Mint Flavor, 150mg, 6-Count Box (Health and Beauty)
Only those who have suffered from canker sores would know the pain and trauma associated with these sores. I get canker sores that last approximately 14 days. Pain! I found Canker Cover after searching the net for relief.

A few minutes after application of Canker cover on a full blown sore, my pain was gone. Three days later the sore had disappeared completely.

Canker Cover is a medical breakthrough which deserves a Nobel Prize!

4.0 out of 5 stars Yes, it does work, March 14, 2009
This review is from: Quantum Health Canker Cover Oral Canker Sore Patch, Mint Flavor, 150mg, 6-Count Box (Health and Beauty)
I was very skeptical of this product initially, but after accidentally biting my lower lip about 4 days ago while chewing gum, I developed a huge canker sore that was so painful I could barely speak. It was about half an inch long and a quarter inch wide. And it wasn't going away. I found myself using benzocaine solutions almost hourly, which as you might already know, amplifies the pain like 10x while you're putting it on at first. I was desperate. I heard about this product online, and actually drove to Walgreens and Target before finding it at CVS.

Well, when I opened the package and saw these tiny, hard, white discs, I was even more skeptical. I thought, what good could these possibly do? Luckily the sore was in a spot where I could keep the area dry. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. Applying the disc on a dry spot is critical to having it stick and do its job. Unfortunately, the shape and size of the canker sore made it impossible to cover it entirely with the disc. There was a small part that remained exposed. As it turns out, this had some dramatic consequences.

The disc turned into a gel as described, and did a fairly good job of relieving the pain. I could still feel some pain due to the bulk of the patch rubbing against my teeth, but much less than before. And since there was a small spot that didn't get covered, that still hurt a lot. I nearly thought of taking a second disc, cutting it in half, and applying it to get full coverage.

Well, about 6 hours later, my tongue eventually rubbed the patch loose. It started to break off so I decided I'd pull the rest off and see what happened. This is where it gets interesting. The area that was covered had noticeably healed. The sore was still there--but because one area had been left uncovered, I could plainly see that even just after 6 hours something amazing happened. I could see that the covered part had already begun the healing process and was much less painful than the untreated area.

I'm not kidding you. This product works. It's not perfect--for one thing, it's bulky and tastes a bit funny and looks really bizarre. It could also come in a larger size, or at least be a bit less expensive so you don't feel so bad about using more than one disc. But if you put it on at night before bedtime, let it do its work, it is way better than any numbing gels like Kanka or Zilactin or Anbesol. I've tried them all and I'm not going back. The trick is to get it to stick well (try tilting your head back and use a cotton swab; also, make sure you've pulled out the disc beforehand--the foil packaging is hard to open), and to leave it undisturbed as much as possible. It doesn't contain any anaesthetics--it works simply by covering the area, preventing irritation and exposure to the bacteria and enzymes in your saliva, and allowing your body to heal. For $10 I think it's worth cutting down on the excruciating pain of a canker sore.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Godsend, March 21, 2009
This review is from: Quantum Health Canker Cover Oral Canker Sore Patch, Mint Flavor, 150mg, 6-Count Box (Health and Beauty)
This product is truly a Godsend if you have a whopper of a canker sore (or even a tiny one)! I had the biggest one ever on the side of my tongue after biting it and the pain was unbearable. I found this product and even though it does take about 30 minutes to dissolve, and it does stick to your teeth a bit at first, I was able to eat, drink, and talk without much difficulty. I wore it overnight and the sore was half the size in the morning. The product does not have any type of healing medicine on it but b/c the sore is protected from food/drink/and friction, it has time to heal. I recommend this product to anyone who has even the smallest sore! The only downside I have noticed is that after it sticks to your teeth for awhile (say during the night) you may have a strange feeling on your teeth...kind of like you ate too many sweet tarts or sour patch kids :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Just fantastic if you use it right!, July 1, 2011
This review is from: Quantum Health Canker Cover Oral Canker Sore Patch, Mint Flavor, 150mg, 6-Count Box (Health and Beauty)
Here's the key to using this great product correctly: _Put the Canker Cover on at night, maybe 15-20 minutes before you go to bed, after brushing your teeth for the night._

I have been plagued with canker sores all my life, and sometimes they get so bad that I lose all pleasure in eating or speaking because I don't want to move my lips. I've used Orabase and the like for years, but this year that hasn't been enough. So I started looking for a new product and found Canker Cover at the CVS.

This product really works. Right now I've got two very large canker sores in my mouth, and close to zero pain.

A lot of people have criticized this product for its gooeyness and messiness, and there's no denying it. Even if you break the Canker Cover in two, you spend a while with a big tab flapping on your lip and later on you have goo on your lips and teeth. Yes, it is indeed annoying (although it's almost tasteless, so it's not revolting or anything). But hear me out. There's a way to make it worth it.

The first time I used a Canker Cover, I thought I'd wasted my money because I quickly got rid of the covering through talking and eating even a little. But then I tried it again before bed, et voila. Over the course of the night, with your mouth still, the cover really bonds to the sore. When you wake up in the morning, you have goo around your teeth (my wife was startled the first time, of course, as was I), but you can just brush that off. And here's the amazing thing: if you leave the cover on over night, even after brushing your teeth in the morning a nearly invisible but very strong layer of protection stays on the sore, and keeps your mouth pain free all day. Better still, within the first hour or so of your day the bump of the shield will be completely gone, and you will not be aware of anything in your mouth at all.

So there you go. Put a canker cover on before bedtime and deal with a little goo in the a.m., and you get a day without mouth pain the next day. If you get canker sores, you need to try this.

4.0 out of 5 stars it really does work, mildly., October 27, 2010
This review is from: Quantum Health Canker Cover Oral Canker Sore Patch, Mint Flavor, 150mg, 6-Count Box (Health and Beauty)
i bit a piece of my cheek and 2-3 days later i got a canker sore. i rinsed with listerine, rinse with warm water and salt and applied anbesol [i let it sit there for like 5 minutes] and it didn't help. my sore grew as days went by. the size is about 1/3 of an inch. it was driving me nuts and making me super cranky! i wanted to rip out my cheek.

i tried other similar product, canker melt, and that one was okay but it didn't do a good job. canker melt was good if you only planned on staying still on your mouth. other wise it'll just come off. canker melts also sticked to my teeth. i don't know why. canker melt was a lot more awkward in your mouth then cancer cover.

anyway, i bought this medicine because i couldn't handle the pain and the mood changes that came with it. i stopped by rite aid and picked up the last one. i paid for about $12 with tax [all rounded of] for six tabs.

let me tell you that it'll be very painful having to dry that sucker up. i padded twice with a paper towel [bath tissue] to ensure it was dry. but what can you expect. my canker sore was bigger then the pill so i try to place it on the middle part of the sore. my god, the pain that i got when it made contact! but again, what can you expect. i had my canker sore at the right side of my mouth near the bottom fang tooth. when trying to apply the tab, try to tilt your head the opposite direction to prevent spit from getting that dry area wet. also, do this in front of the bathroom sink as you'll not only want to tilt your head slightly but also in a way that you're able to drain a few spit out while juggling to get that pill on the canker sore. if you don't drain some spit, you'll get a build up of spit, which will likely make your hands wet and getting that dry area wet.

when you look at the pill, there is a pink side and a white lite pinkish side. make sure you are aware of that. i had to verify three times to make sure that the darker pinkish side was on the outside, not being applied to the sore.

when you have placed the pill, hold it for longer then what the instruction asks you to, 20 seconds. hold it for a minute and alternate your hands since the moisture in your mouth will damp your hands and it'll start to stick with the pill. after a minute, close your mouth slowly and don't do much with your mouth for about 30minutes. the purpose is for the pill to "normalize" with your mouth. after 30 minutes, carefully open and examine the piece to see if it's sticking to your teeth. if it's sticking, use a toothpick to pick the pill out from your tooth [do this carefully]. then moisten that part of the tooth with spit and tongue to prevent the pill from sticking again. after another 30 minutes, drink some water to moisten your mouth. soon, you'll see that the pill will become jelly like and surround the sore.

the problem with this product is that it's just a patch job. sure it will lessen the pain and provide some comfort but there are still certain things you can't do, like making big smiles, which would stretch the sore and you'll feel some pain. but for being able to move your mouth and talk, drink water, and having snacks [things that don't make your mouth make big gestures] it does a really great job. i can now say i'm no longer afraid of canker sores as long as i have a pack of canker covers. the reward that this product offers is not going to make you care about the price because it's a blessing.

the second day healed the sore mildly: you could feel an improvement as i felt that the sore isn't as bad as it was before. i tried eating with the pill on today and the only advice i can provide is wait until the pill starts to become a jelly, about an hour. i tried eating while the pill was still like a pill, sort of like mid way from being a jelly and still looking like a pill, and all i have to say is that it felt like the pill will pop out because it gets caught on your teeth and as you pull down, it feels like it's being pulled out. but when the pill becomes a jelly, it's softer and mushy, which makes it easier to manuver around your teeth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do You Believe In Magic?, July 21, 2009
By
Like some others have said, I bought these during the worst bout with a canker sore that I've ever had. For three days, every time I tried to eat was just misery. Having experienced these sores many times before, I knew I was in store for several more days of mealtime agony.

So last evening, I bought this product, put one on and noticed almost instant relief. I was encouraged, so I after about a half hour I tried a fizzy beverage that would otherwise have been unpleasant...no pain at all. So I had dinner: spicy grilled shrimp and spinach salad. No pain! As wonderful as that was the best part is that this morning the sore is nearly healed and is only slightly painful, an almost unbelievable outcome given the pain I was in just yesterday.

Yes, it is difficult to eat or talk if the sore is on your inner cheek by your front teeth but for this kind of relief/result, who cares. Fantastic product.

They are considerably cheaper here than at the local drugstore so stock up while you are not suffering from an outbreak.

BTW, this review is for the Canker Cover patches, not the Canker Care gel. Amazon seems to be confused between the two.

To the reviewer that talked about how bad they are because of how hard they are to apply, well, it's true that they can be hard to get on there (very hard if the sore is in a hard-to-reach spot). And yes, it's difficult to dry the spot where the sore is and keep it dry while you keep your mouth open with one hand and use the other to pick up the canker cover and try to apply it. Once, I even had to get my wife to hook my lip with her finger and keep the space open while I dried and applied it.
BUT, once you get it applied, it works beautifully. I would gladly go through the trouble of getting it on and pay twice the current price for the relief it provides. My canker sores generally would stay around for 2 weeks before; now they usually start going away within a day or two of using one of these.
Word of advice though: for me, using it while the sore is brand new and very small hasn't worked that well. So, I usually give it a day or two to expand then use the canker cover after I feel like it's finished its initial growth.
