Quantum Hoops,
This review is from: Quantum Hoops (DVD)
I purchased this DVD for a retired math professor who played a lot of basketball in his youth. He will love this documentary. I loved this documentary. I found myself smiling as I watched it. It's historically informative, the cinematography keeps one's interest, and in a quirky way, it's very inspirational. It takes a quantum leap beyond the money making enterprise college basketball has become. I shows what real basketball should be about. Go Beavers!

"Quantum Hoops" is one of the best documentaries I have seen in a long time. It is an original story, simply and beautifully told. It's for everyone... if you like basketball, (or even if you don't), if you like underdogs, if you ever were a nerd, or a little off beat, if you love stories well told about very unique, inspiring people, this is for you.
The story of the Cal Tech basketball team trying to break a years long losing streak, the movie also goes into the fascinating history of Cal Tech, and delves into the lives of some of the players on the basketball team over the years. This might sound boring to some people, but it is boring in the way that 'Spellbound', a movie about a spelling bee, was boring... "Spellbound" was about as suspenseful to me as "The Fugitive" and while this movie is not quite as centered around the contest, at least until the end, it is just as entertaining and insightful as "Spellbound". Give this movie a look. It is truly worth your while and will put a huge smile on your face.

I really like this film. I only wish that it had subtitles, or captioning. (subtitles are preferable, because captioning is tough to view abroad, because most machines are not set up for it outside the US).
If you get this, make sure you watch the extras. The mini-documentary about the Lady Beavers stands alone as it's own inspiring sports documentary. This DVD really makes us question why are sports important? What should collegiate sports be about? What does it mean to be a successful coach or player? Buy it, watch it, think about it.

This is a sleeper of a documentary, and a must for lovers of high school and college basketball. The story is well told and filmed. A funny, touching film.
