5.0 out of 5 stars Hine sight..., February 15, 2000

This is one Holy Grail album of the 70's that I never expected to see reissued on CD...maybe there really is a God! In hindsight, this progressive funk/rock/jazz album was way ahead of its time, sounding just as fresh today as it did in 1976. Led by songwriter/keyboardist/producer Rupert Hine,a rich mix of in-the-pocket funk, spicy latin percussion, precision harmonies and enigmatic lyrics make for a musical masala matched only by the likes of Steely Dan. Standout tracks:"Lone Ranger","Over Rio","No American Starship" and "Alta Loma Road". Worth noting: despite the relative obscurity of his own band, leader Rupert Hine later produced Howard Jones'excellent "Human's Lib" album and I still notice his producer credits popping up here and there through present day.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best, February 4, 2003

One of the best CD's ever produced. This is 20 - 30 maybe 40 years ahead of it's time and the guitar solo on AMERICAN STARSHIP may well be one of the best ever recorded. In fact the guitar work on the whole album is astounding. Mark Warner used to play in CARAVAN but has disappeared since this outing.WHYYYY?
Reading the sleeve notes, it seems that the solos were done in one take, which would make MARK one of the fastest and best guitarists of all time. Beside amazing guitar pirotechnics the album should be required listening for anyone writing rock or pop music. Some of the most ambitiuous melodies and rythms fit seemlessly, the lyrics are of a standard seldom reached in POP with a sense of humour that is black and image laden. Enough allready, if you like any kind of music you should buy this CD as it will challenge, surprise, amuse and endlessly entertain you .
