Amazing how common sense Quantum Leadership really is. I am looking forward to the day when the heirarchical approach to leadership will truly be non-existent so that creativity from those at lower levels may be realized and utilized to ensure necessary changes are made. Thank you Porter-O'Grady & Malloch for a great text - easy to read from cover to cover!

I had to read this book for a graduate level course and I do not recommend it to anyone outside of the course. This book is excessively redundant and poorly written. The size of the book could have been cut in half if the authors did not repeat themselves and put down their thesaurus. The diagrams and flow charts also make no sense. Save yourself and do not read this book.

Yes, it is a text book about leadership; although, there is little mention of its source of ethics ... other than the names of those organizations whom have employed them from some other authority. But, it is a text book after all and is subject to the bias of the current moral trends among scholars and within academic domains.

All that aside, this is a very useful text for learning about leadership in the workplace in our current day and age. I am curious how it will be revised in a decade from now though.

This book was required for two of my doctoral classes in nursing leadership. I disagree with the authors' assumptions about old (Newtonian) and new (Quantum) leadership. The quantum theory metaphors are misguided in my opinion. With four generations currently represented in the US workforce, I think it is unnecessarily divisive to label twentieth century leadership as bad and twenty-first century leadership as good. There were plenty of forward thinking, progressive, inspirational leaders in the twentieth century. Kennedy inspired us to reach for the moon. Carter inspired us to seek peace in the middle east. Health care leaders during the twentieth century implemented antibiotic therapy, eradicated polio in the U.S., made cardiac surgery possible and transplant surgery routine. They responded swiftly to the AIDS crisis and its aftermath of latex allergy. Achieving balance between stability and change is a polarity that has been managed well by good leaders in both twentieth and twenty-first centuries.the quantum theory metaphors Porter-O'Grady and Malloch use to illustrate their vision of twenty-first century leadership are ironic. The Theory of Quantum Mechanics was developed by physicists in the early twentieth century following Einstein's Theory of Relativity. Even Einstein did not believe its proposed particle/wave duality. Nursing is a holistic practice discipline, it is not well served by dualistic metaphors and divisive propaganda.

Leadership is determined by five factors - a group's personality, the task to be accomplished, the environment in which the task is performed, the amount of time and resources allocated to the task.

This book does not discuss any of these, but rather stands as a prolonged case study of how one man's methods and philosophy have resulted in desirable benefits for him and those with whom he worked during his years in management.

The book is not bad, there are interesting ideas. I just wish the publisher's website was more user-friendly. I registered the book when I bought it but am now unable to log-in. I contacted tech support and will update this depending on the service I get.
