5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Fast-Paced Story, September 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Quantum Leap 10: Odyssey (Paperback)
Sam leaps into a boy genius in the early 1980s and has to find a way to work some Sam-style miracles in the lives of his classmates. One reason I especially liked "Odyssey" was that--unlike so many of the QL books, it didn't hinge on some kind of gimmick. Someone wasn't threatening the Project, people from the Project weren't popping up, and various episodes weren't being integrated. (OK, there does turn out to be a Project connection in the end, but it is thankfully kept in the background until the very end.) Rather, it was a simple story of normal people who needed help, and Sam was there to do it. But for a "small" story, it was still exciting, intelligent, and moving, with some vividly created characters and a final scene where the good guys triumph that made me all-smiles. Don't miss this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars This one is my favorite!!, August 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Quantum Leap 10: Odyssey (Paperback)
I also grew up near where this episode takes place, during the time it takes place. What was really weird was I knew a real Sean O'Connor who was just a little older than the character in that year. He was in high school. The politics of the small town and the attitude toward the gifted students was extreamly well portayed and true to the area and times. Barbara Walton has done an excellent job.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reality Hits..., September 8, 2001
This review is from: Quantum Leap 10: Odyssey (Paperback)
Not only did I grow up where the novel takes place, during that time period, but I also grew up with the author. Not only did Barbara do an excellent job of protraying the characters from the Quantum Leap television series, but there is an amazing amount of realism shown in the Gifted Program, and the character representing our gifted program advisor, was refreshing... Hopefully someday we will see more writing from Barbara Walton, as I know she has written much more...
