5.0 out of 5 stars For fans of Stargate
Pros:
Coaster looks pretty cool.
The worm hole is completely transparent and appears to be made of pretty solid plastic- so there is no concern that you might shatter it by placing something on it.
The gate itself is pretty solid resin.
There is a felt backing behind the gate so that it sits without sliding whatever surface you decide to place it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks Great, Works Only So-So
These coasters looks and feel fantastic, but they are not good for drinks that are particularly damp. Lots of condensation or cardboard cups that slowly leak overnight reveal that these coasters are not watertight. When liquid sits long enough in these coasters, they find the little nooks in the bottom, saturate the felt, which then stains whatever it's sitting on. This...

Cons:
The worm hole is a little curved, like a lens, so the cup doesn't sit as solidly on it as one would expect. But again, it's no cause for concern. Your cup isn't suddenly going to slide off and tip over.

I never thought I would buy any coasters (or a set) in my entire life, but being a big fan of the Stargate series I couldn't resist! As far as the quality, design, etc of these coasters I'll put it this way:

Pros:
> QMx used the actual CGI files to recreate the stargate for these coasters -- detail is great on everything!
> Quality of the coaster is good
> Great conversation piece, and one of a kind coaster set. It will look cool to people who know nothing about Stargate.

Cons
> I'm concerned with the area where the blue event horizon meets the gate. It could have been constructed better. Could potentially (down the road) lead to condensation leaking from the glass/cup to the table.
> Blue event horizon is somewhat slippery, so be careful with certain types of cups/mugs

Overall:

This coaster set (4 coasters in all) is a great way to enjoy Stargate in another fashion, while being fashionable. They have excellent detailing, and look very realistic compared to the show/movie. If you're on the edge about these (as I was due to the lack of reviews)... GO FOR IT. In the end, they are worth it.

This results in gray rings on surfaces that can be difficult to remove.

It may be possible to seal the crevices before use with silicone or hot glue, but I haven't tried this yet. So beware, these coasters only protect against minimal amounts of liquid.

A definite must have item for STargate fans. I use my set frequently. The felt keeps the coaster stable. The event horizon is not perfectly flat, but has no problems stabilizing cups. I've been using them for about a year as of this review and they show very little wear&tear from typical daily use.

Length:: 0:28 Mins

I'll try to break this down to pros and cons.

Pros:
1) Looks just like the real thing. The chevrons are detailed and the gate coordinates are easy to see. The coloring of the gate is accurate and the shimmering event horizon is a great representation of the original.
2) The event horizon sits lower than the gate itself so it easily holds the cup/glass securely.
3) The non-skid material on the bottom of the coaster holds it securely on the tabletop.

Cons:
1) The Event horizon isn't molded into the gate itself it is a separate piece that slides in from the bottom. The piece itself doesn't sit evenly in the gate mold. I first thought this was to drain any sweat from the glass through the gate but that isn't true, the piece is just badly mounted.
2) There is no outside detail to the mold. The actual gate has details that surround the outside of the ring, this coaster set doesn't have those details.

Great set with minor issues. Glad I got them and recommend you pick them up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very cool, but a little fragile, March 9, 2011

I was really excited when my husband handed my the Amazon box these came in - and I'm still psyched to have them :D The event horizon is transparent and when the sun hits it just right on our glass coffee table it makes an very cool effect. The only trouble we've had is that the material used to make up the event horizon has already started to scratch. We're assuming from the unfinished bottoms of some of our coffee cups - just something to watch out for. Otherwise they are great. Really neat to have, and to look at and so far fully functional :D

An interesting conversation set, these Coasters are a nice touch for your coffee table. I haven't had any problems with their bumpy surface, and they're easy to clean. I recommend to anyone who is a fan of Stargate.

Basically all the other reviewers hit the nail on the head. This is a great looking and fun coaster set, for fans of the show. I actually never used to use coasters, but after I go these I am actually using them (go figure). The plastic has held up just fine to drops on the floor and everything else I have thrown at it. FYI I have only used these during the winter so far, so we have yet to see what summer brings as far as handling condensation goes. I think they will be fine, but their is potential for water to pool up in the stargate.

Pros: great looking coaster for any Stargate fan! Detailed symbols are clearly visible. It's also felt-bottomed to protect coffee tables and the like. Best functional piece of Stargate memorabilia I've seen.

Cons: probably the worst looking part is the orange light at each chevron. These look pretty quickly blotted so they're not very uniform. However, unless someone's analyzing your coasters (as a real SG-1 fan may) it's not a huge issue. Also, the edges are just flat black with no detail.

Other: as previously mentioned, the surface is rippled to create the visual effect, but it doesn't affect the use of the coaster.

Quality is acceptable. It slightly feels cheaper than I was hoping, but it is still a nice item.
It's unique and hard to find. Totally worth it.
