This is a continuation of the Portal series. The saga continues and just gets better & better. We learn more about the Wanderers, and things get even more complicated. All kinds of surprises in this one, but in the end, we still have the original villain, Raj Sen, stirring the pot. This is classified as YA, but it's really good reading.

I'd read and enjoyed the first two volumes of Imogen Rose's "Portal Chronicles" and was thrilled when she accepted my offer to be a beta reader for Quantum, the third book in the series. This is easily the best book of the series so far. While I think it would be possible for someone just starting to begin with EQUILIBRIUM (Portal Chronicles Book Two) if they hadn't already read PORTAL (Portal Chronicles) I would not advise starting with Quantum. This is because with each new volume Rose is expanding our knowledge of the world she has created. This volume, at least IMO, hits the point where knowledge of everyone's back story is needed to understand the full import of the continuing saga of Arizona and her family.

For those continuing their read of the Portal Chronicles, Quantum starts out with a significant revelation in the prologue and continues with lots of plot twists you'd have never guessed, but that make perfect sense when they happen. As you learn more about the history of the characters in the series and how they relate to each you gain a deeper understanding of them and care more and more about what is going to happen next. When you finish, just as with the prior two books, you're left with the satisfaction of a good story well told, yet are eager for the next in the series.

The end of the second book in this series, EQUILIBRIUM (Portal Chronicles Book Two), leaves us with quite a cliff hanger. I've been not-so-patiently waiting on the third book to come out. I have major instant gratification problems, so either the author took pity on me or I moaned and groaned enough in public forums that she sent me an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of Quantum just to shut me up. Either way, I was excited to find out what happened next. I'm a 30(mumble) year old woman, but I absolutely adore this young adult series.

It is very rare that I feel a series gets better as it goes on. In fact, the Portal Chronicles is the only one I can think of this year that I've felt that way about. It stays true to the storyline, the characters and the location. I didn't feel the least bit disconnected from the previous two books. It's one of the things I enjoy most about these books, they are complete stories, she left us hanging a bit on the 2nd one, but there's no awkward breaks.

This particular book is very well written, very well edited and a great polished product. It is very professionally done and something the author should be very proud to call her final work product. I didn't see any grammar issues or spelling issues; either I was too sucked into the story to notice or they simply don't exist (I suspect the latter as Ms. Rose's previous work has always been well done as well).

The characters were well formed. I felt I got to know more about each of them.

Quantum was definitely the most interesting, wonderful, confusing, exciting book out of the whole series!

The fact that they hero's name was Kellan sold me. I knew from there I needed to read this series, but after reading the series, I fell in love with it as well. Not only is Kellan a wonderful character, but most of them are, even the bad ones! I love the fact that you can see all of the characters grow throughout the story.

Arizona has gone through more than any person might think possible in this life time. From the previous two books, we are all well aware of that. But in Quantum, things just get more and more interesting. Arizona is living in two worlds, literally. She has two dads, two houses, and two... boyfriends? No! That can't be! Or can it?

Not only is there things going on with Arizona, but even major and minor characters have things going on with them. Life changing things. Though we were able to see all of the characters grow, Rose just does not stop with the twists and turns! It can be beautiful, frustrating, and or both.

Rose has a wonderful mind and purposefully tries to keep you thinking, which can be a great thing when reading. It keeps you guessing and flipping the pages for more information! In the back of Quantum, you see that the series continues with another book! What more can Rose put us and these characters you ask? I have no idea but I can not wait to find out!
