Latest Updates

What's new in version 1.34.4
  • Various FC fixes
  • Fixed issue where previous/next arrows in the Message view screen were not correctly applying the user's SORT preference
  • Fixed issue where previous/next arrows in the Message view screen were not moving to the correct messages while in the Combined Inbox
  • Fixed issue where debug logger might cause a FC if left on too long
  • Fixed issue where an invalid system date format would cause EE to FC
  • Fixed issue where changing system date format to another value then back to default would result in EE removing the datestamp altogether from reply headers
  • Added polling intervals of 8 hours and 1 day to "Settings->Account Settings->Inbox check frequency"
  • When importing an account configuration, if this is the first account then global preferences from backup file will be restored
  • International date/time format for reply headers is added (Note: You will need to explicitly set your date format in Android Settings->Date & Time or else the app defaults to U.S. date formatting. Same goes for the time format. Change the value in there to ANYTHING other than default/regional.)

  • Last sync time is now displayed on Accounts screen under each account

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps Getting Better With Every Update November 17, 2011
By Blahh
Amazon Verified Purchase
I normally don't go into detail this far on a mobile app on the market (all my other reviews are a few sentences), but the developer left a comment about my prior review comments (I was a bit overreacting to how the app looked compared to the stock app) and so I was pressed to go seek out and verify what he said and see how true it was.

The app is based on the stock email app from the Android Source (froyo with patches from gingerbread) and the developer doesn't try to hide that fact by any means. However, he has added features and functionality to it (obviously not so much to the UI as everyone has commented on, but many developers not exactly that artistic either) in order to make it better.

After trying it out for a few weeks, some of the new features I thought were the most useful and new (compared to the froyo/gingerbread stock email apps:

-No pin security for exchange
-A button in the top right to switch between accounts
-An HTML viewer that works properly (panning around isn't totally broken and you can pinch zoom)
-Buttons on individual emails to forward/star/move the email
-Ability to search for emails with a search tool
-Shortcut to create a new email from the email list for the account (a + sign in the top right)

Issues I've had:

1) Notifies of the same emails as being new (now fixed, so no longer an issue, yay)

The developer has been working on adding stuff to it since 2010 at least (first removing the exchange pin crap that people hate) and the thread about it on xda-developers forum is 100s of pages long now filled with changes and requests the Android developer's community helped him with and gave him feedback on. The guy is obviously dedicated to his work and unlike some developers, has no plans to just abandon it. Would $9.99 be too high for an app that's a one shot deal with no future updates? Perhaps, but I'm certain he will continue patching + adding to it and taking feedback. Good developers treat their work like it's an extension of themselves just as any person does that takes pride in what they do.

Just a fair warning--non technical users can probably ignore this paragraph (as it's only here to quiet those that think he can't base his app on the Android Email app). The developer is allowed sell this guys (despite being based from the Android stock email app) if he wants because it's under the Apache License, which allows commercial modification and usage of the source code (look it up). Apache is the same license the Android OS falls under and HTC/Samsung/and even Amazon (Kindle Fire) use and don't give back the source, so it's not any different than that (note the Android kernel is GPL, not the OS itself, which Google went through great lengths to avoid the GPL on it).

Should the developer have started from nothing and not based his app on the email app taken from the Android OS itself? Nah, because it's okay to borrow from the Android Stock Email code/UI (as per the license it's under). I think it could be to the developer's advantage if he does not change the look of the UI anytime soon to play up the differences more between his app and the stock email app, because plenty will jump to the conclusion right away it isn't any different.

People who don't have the experience to update their phone OS to the latest version of Android might also find this app useful (there are somehow still people stuck on Android 2.2 or before thanks to service providers not caring about updates).

Also, the creator reviewed his own app (However, he took down the review later after being called out, so I give him that for owning up to it). How do I know? Do a "whois" on his website and then match the name that registered his domain to a early reviewer that zealously defends this app. I know pretty much all the self publishing developers tend to do it on here and I find self reviewing a bit lame (but at the same time, there are quite a few customer reviews on the Amazon App store in general that stand on dubious grounds for being vague or without justification for the review and it bugs developers just the same), but each to their own...

5.0 out of 5 stars Gmail + AOSP = Enhanced Email November 17, 2011
By Alih
Amazon Verified Purchase
Managing 8 email accounts can get time consuming. This app combines the features of Gmail and AOSP and incorporates them effortlessly.
Key features I was looking for and found here:
- Combined Inbox (Gmail & Yahoo, I don't use other mail so can't comment)
- Mark Batch Read
- Batch Delete
- Move to Folders
- Zoom in & out
These are key features I wanted in 1 app but was missing in either or other email clients.

I got it free today, but had I known of these features incorporated I would have bought it long time ago. I spend much on waste and $10 for long term convenience is worth it.

I have to admit, in the app world people count nickel and dime ($4.99 would fit the catch) BUT in the real world we waste $20 on junk or a trip to fast food.

Anyways,
100% worth it $10
200% worth it $5
999% worth it free

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding email app June 28, 2011
The primary propose of this app is to defeat the email security set by your exchange admin. It can use that security if desired, but gives YOU that choice. It is based off the default email client, but has many little improvements and gets updates.
