3.0 out of 5 stars Nice book, but ...
This is a nice slick looking book, but everyhing has the same look to it. Ambiguous shapes and colors in space. I wish there was more insight into the creation of each piece, such as programs used, image size, etc. Otherwise a nice book overall.

This review is from: Quantumscapes: The Art of Stephan Martiniere (Paperback)
Length:: 0:14 Mins

This is the second art book of Stephan Martinere. The first being Quantum Dreams, which I reviewed a while back.

This book continues his portfolio on science fiction work. It includes prints that were created for books, film & commercial work and games. At the end of the book are a few pages on his personal work and a description of his design process.

While the book focuses heavily on futuristic cities and landscapes, a few creature designs are included.

The book might be a little thin but at least the quality is top notch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book but could be better, April 3, 2007

Not as good as the previous collection from Stephan Martiniere (Quantum Dreams) because there was too many sketches & and not more finished paintings. Also some paintings deserved to be reproduced in a bigger format.
The comments by Stephan Martiniere are very interesting though and I especially like the last chapter showing the various steps he went through to paint the image on the cover.

Stephan Martiniere is in demand for his bookcovers, character design and work in motion pictures. In this edition we get an expanded look at his creative process, as he shows us step by step how he works on a bookcover. He also gives us several alterate covers, and some explaination of why they were not choosen. I reccomend this book as well as his other book.

Quantumscapes, Martiniere's second book, is quite good. It has a good variety of artwork, from sci fi book covers to concept art for heaven. Images are clear and rich. The book itself is large, and is printed great quality paper. Binding is very good.

A great book. I recommend it over Quantum Dreams.

certenly Martiniere style can inspire you to improve your
digital skills...
not a instruction book....

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!, December 26, 2010

The testimonial at the beginning by the creator of the Odd World gaming universe was just as insightful as the peerless collection of work itself. Stephan is a master of his craft, and if you are a digital colorist or a fan of digital paintings you will love this book. The only drawback is that it is rather short - it does have a book spine, holding about 100 pages - and at the end you'll be craving for more.
As a writer/artist, Stephan is one of the key influences for my work [The DSNG Chronicles] helping me to describe neo-industrial and futuristic landscapes in my stories to perfection, just by gazing endlessly at his perfect work.
I'm looking forward to his next book!

One of the best concept artists you will come across. A beautiful collection of his images as well as the bonus of a tutorial on the cover piece.

I wish I can draw like this guy. But instead I can only enjoy watching. Nice! The future concept sometimes is very realistic. Detailed work. I need more of his stuff! Bring me all! :-)

Muy bueno y mejorando al anterior, Quantum Dreams, además de paisajes, personajes, bocetos y una muestra del trabajo paso a paso.

Totalmente recomendable
