lost classic from the 70s,
This review is from: Quarry (Paperback)
I can't believe that no one's reviewed this book since it went back into print. Older editions have gone for high prices in used stores and online. This is the first Quarry book and a really good start to the series. Quarry is a young vet returning from Vietnam who's life is further devastated when he comes home. He goes to work for The Broker, a mysterious old man with mob ties who sets Quarry up as a hitman. He does his job well but feels that he can never really trust his boss...
There's a lot of violent action and humor for a book that was part of the author's MFA thesis. If you are a fan of old 1970s crime writers like Richard Stark and George V Higgins, pick it up. The price goes up if it falls back out of print. Or if you're a fan of Collins's newer work, check it out. He was a good writer from the beginning. |
