4.0 out of 5 stars Sprouting made easy, March 25, 2009
This review is from: One Quart Glass Sprouter Jar w/ Sprouting Strainer Lid: Grow Sprouts: Includes 2 Oz. Organic Alfalfa Sprout Seeds & Sprouting Instructions
In my younger days I used to grow sprouts in between paper towels. I recently wanted to get back to doing my own sprouts, but really didnt want
to go the paper towel route again. I researched a few styles and purchased this sprouter. I am quite pleased with the ease. I agree with the first reviewer that the hulls will not come out with the lid on, but it isnt difficult to add water and gently swish the sprouts. The hulls will float to the top for you to discard. I have my second batch of sprouts under way. I like it and would recomend this product. (No chance of paper towels drying up while your at work, and no need to mess with cheesecloth).

I bought the sprouting jar with lid and the seeds. Both the jar and the seeds came with instructions on how to grow sprouts. One set of the instructions was vague, but the other set work well. The seeds sprout well and require little attention other than rinsing and draining a couple times a day. The instructions say that when the sprouts are ready you can fill the jar with water and the seed hulls will float out the lid - the openings in the lid are too small for this but I just put them in a bowl of water and they float to the top. Otherwise great product and it works well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and easy, October 27, 2011
This review is from: One Quart Glass Sprouter Jar w/ Sprouting Strainer Lid: Grow Sprouts: Includes 2 Oz. Organic Alfalfa Sprout Seeds & Sprouting Instructions
I've just eaten my first batch of alfalfa sprouts from this sprouter. I never knew what REAL/FRESH sprouts were supposed to taste like! They're delicious and they only took 4 days! This is such an easy way to make your own sprouts. The only gripe I have is that I bought it for DOUBLE the price at Whole Foods. Next time, I'll do my research before buying elsewhere!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great, June 20, 2011

Sprouted successfully. The instructions say to have it on its side with the bottom tilted up a little so the water drains out the top. This is kinda awkward to arrange with the shape of the jar. I get good results just laying it flat on its side with a towel under it, but if you're worried about seeds rotting or bacteria growing in any pools of water (presumably this is why they want it tilted) just prop up the bottom with another folded towel or two for the right angle.

I like this product, it grows sprouts well. It's a bit pricey considering you can buy the strainer lid seperately for around $4 and use it with any standard qt mason jar.
Some have said that when using the separately bought strainer lid with their mason jars, it leaked at the threads. The lid fits tight and snug on this product.

Also, this jar is square shaped so it won't roll when set flat, unlike some standard mason jars.

I'm going to buy a sandwich blend of seeds, alfalfa alone is OK but not as peppy tasting for sandwiches. I suggest buyers order both alfalfa and a sandwich blend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gently rinse and drain slowly, prevents mangled sprouts, December 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: One Quart Glass Sprouter Jar w/ Sprouting Strainer Lid: Grow Sprouts: Includes 2 Oz. Organic Alfalfa Sprout Seeds & Sprouting Instructions
I finally figured out how to sprout, rinse and not get the seedlings all tangled up in a big mess. After about 3 days of rinsing as directed, I see the seedlings beginning their growth orienting the leaves upwards, while the roots mat at the bottom. Then I gently rinse, gently tilt sideways to drain, so I don't distrub the growth orientation. I end up with sprouts that are not tangled, but with clear leaves UP roots DOWN orientation, like you would by in them in wholefoods supermarket.

Love the rinsing once daily, prevents rotting. Sprinkle after each rinse with seaweed fertilizer solution. Fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought from IslandSprouter.com! SWEET!, August 5, 2011
This review is from: One Quart Glass Sprouter Jar w/ Sprouting Strainer Lid: Grow Sprouts: Includes 2 Oz. Organic Alfalfa Sprout Seeds & Sprouting Instructions
Sprouts have become the ANSWER to the freshest veggies I can find. Grow my own, the entire family is involved in "watching the MIRACLE of the SWIFT GROWING WONDERFUL SPROUTS".

Being able to GROW containers of our own FRESH SPROUTS every three to four days has been FANTASTIC!

Honestly, it has been almost an IMPOSSIBLE task to find FRESH, GREEN CRUNCHY, SPROUTS that are worth even buying, much less TASTE WONDERFUL !

WE HAVE CHANGED OUR ENTIRE DIETS and gotten the entire family to eat "SPROUTS", we can grow, PLUS they have discovered that SPROUTS TASTE GOOD! THANKS for the great product!

PS: The grocery bill went down too! It costs just a couple of pennies to grow sprouts!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gardening in a jar, January 26, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: One Quart Glass Sprouter Jar w/ Sprouting Strainer Lid: Grow Sprouts: Includes 2 Oz. Organic Alfalfa Sprout Seeds & Sprouting Instructions
For those of us who like to grow things, it's hard to wait for planting season. This makes waiting a little easier. This sprouting jar allows you to grow a portion of your own food. You don't even really need this jar, however. You can get the same results with a glass jar and a bit of cheesecloth. But this item comes with a package of organic alfalfa sprout seeds and sprouting instructions. I bought a couple of these as gifts for kids to use as learning tools, and I'm completely satisfied with the purchase.
