3.0 out of 5 stars Laser pointer
Nicely packaged. Clear red dot on most surfaces, but it got lost (invisible) when I pointed it at a projection screen. May have been the angle, but I bought it to use during presentations, so wasn't thrilled by it.

If you've looked around for laser pointers, you know that they tend to be very wide. Once you get into the thinner, more compact versions, the choices quickly narrow. Looking in your local Office Depot type store, it's highly unlikely that you'll find a non-keychain laser pointer that uses a battery smaller than a AA or AAA. While most similarly minded items are inexpensive, they also tend to be so poorly made that they are virtually disposable. You really get what you pay for with these items. After years of looking for a high quality, thin laser pointer, the winner is the Apollo Executive. It is thin, stylish and built like a tank. My laser pointers get a great deal of use and abuse. While I've gone through lesser items in one to three months, I've had Executives last me years. The first and most likely part of any laser pointer to go is the button. Again, this button mechanism is blast proof. In addition to reliability, the red beam is bright enough. The device uses two AAAA batteries, which are easier to find and change when compared to the typical button cell batteries that most similarly sized laser pointers use. This is one of the more expensive (non-tactical) laser pointers that you'll find. While it's easy to find thin laser pointers that cost less, I have yet to find any that compare in quality.

A true 5-Star product!

I travel for a living providing presentations on computer software solutions and there is nothing better than a compact lazer pointer that comes in nice slim protective case. It easily fits into my Dell laptop bag and always passes through TSA (airport security) without issue.

The elegance of the item has been described before and needless to say this item is very popular with my coworkers. The feel in your hand is perfect and the item weight is balanced very well for my tastes. It looks and feels like a very high quality pen.

The only "fault" of this product is the strength of the pocket clip. A mindless customer once bent the pocket clip backwards and wound up breaking it off. Even so the rest product worked just fine for several years more!

After having this product for over 4-years and only using two sets of AAAA batteries....I can't recommend this product enough.

Great ruby laser for the price. I use it everyday. Bought one of those "cheapo" lasers and it died after 2 wks. Great for a classroom, but my dog likes it too!

My cat can't get enough of this laser. I originally bought this for presentations at school, but it worked so well on my cat that I keep it at home. I did drop my first laser pointer once & it did snap in half. So I would say it's lacking in the durability department. However I purchased a second to replace it as it appears to be the best available in it's price range. The light reaches all the way down the block from the top of the hill I live on. So no issues with power or distance. It's also very clear. From my house I could still make it out ½ down the block. I highly recomend if you can take good care of it.

I was hoping based on the higher price and class three rating that was originally advertized, that it would be closer to 5mW but only has output of 1.5mW. Other than that is is very durable and well made.

At the same time I purchased this item from Amazon, I also purchased a "5mw 532nm Astronomy Powerful Green Laser Pointer". That one projects a beam several times more powerful (brighter) than this one, and a slightly wider beam, so it is easy to see at a couple hundred yards. This one has such a weak beam it won't go past about 100 yards. This one was about $25, the other about $8 shipped. Nough said.

5.0 out of 5 stars I thought it was great., August 24, 2007

I got one of the same laser pointers for 39 bucks at Staples. I love it, I always used to go outside at night and shine it on everything, and I have a 400 foot-long street with a stop sign at the end. And there you could see the little red dot at bright as the sun on the stop sign.

I used to do this. The reason I can't anymore is because I did something really stupid in the basement. I Ductaped it to a fan to make a circular line all around the walls. Well, I put it on full speed and it was going too fast to see the line, and all of a sudden, the pointer slips out of the tape at a phenomenal speed of like 100 miles an hour heading for the brick wall (and God forbid, it just has to hit the only one of the four walls to be brick!!!). I heard a huge popping noise and that is when I actually realized that everything i said just happened. I pick up the laser behind alot of boxes.

It was bent 90 degrees in half, blinking, and one side was flat.
I realized i wasn't gonna fix that one.

I say buy this. Just dont do what I did!!!!!
