5.0 out of 5 stars Break Out the Cappucino and Biscotti!, April 17, 2009
This review is from: Quartetto Gelato (Audio CD)
I love operatic arrangements for small ensembles--which on this CD include accordion, oboe, violin, viola, mandolin, cello--and a violinist with a marvelous voice! Quartetto Gelato has fun with Donizetti, Puccini, Ravel, Bach and others. Some traditional Italian songs had me reaching for the cappucino. And just for spice, they toss in "Dark Eyes," "Danny Boy," and a Russian Medley that will have you dancing around the living room (close the blinds first!). All of the pieces are extremely well-played. Listening to this CD will make you happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unusual quartet makes classical music fun!, November 9, 2008
This review is from: Quartetto Gelato (Audio CD)
Quartetto Gelato is one of the most delightful combinations of instruments I have ever heard. I think it is the accordion that makes this group work. An eclectric array of classical and popular pieces, most very familiar, comes off refreshingly new and just simply lifts my spirits up.

If you have ever been to St. Marks square in Venice and listened with wonder to the little bands playing, this will bring back those memories.

That they should name their fabulous foursome after dessert (gelato means ice cream in Italian) doesn't mean it is just for special occasions. I believe we all deserve dessert after every meal!
