A classic before classics were around..., August 14, 2010
People from the government that can't be trusted. Strange objects falling from the sky. Villagers acting bland and keeping secrets. Enter the wonderful world of Quatermass. Invented by Nigel Kneale this world pre-dated the X-Files, the Night Stalker, and even Doctor Who.
The book isn't a novel but the play for the television version made by the BBC. There is also a movie version, which I have seen, but there must have been changes to the movie script. That makes it just as interesting to read, not to mention that the writing is bright, imaginative, and daring.
The book even has photos from the TV series and a cast list, many names you will no doubt recognize from other early television works by the BBC and Nigel Kneale.
The plot, as you can guess is simple. Quatermass is drawn into a mystery. People seem to be hurt or changed from objects landing on Earth. They are also showing up on radar yet nobody seems to wish to talk about it. The classical alien invasion story before such things became...well...classical.
Enjoy!
