5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Mozart, December 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Les Quatuors Dedies a Haydn (Audio CD)
This is a really great album. The enthusiasm and understanding that the Mosaiques bring to this music are phenomenal. It's not so much the period instruments but the conception of Mozart's quartets as conversations among four players that makes this a collection to be listened to over and over again. It's closest rival in that interpretative direction is the Talich Quartet who play on modern instruments (unfortunately currently unavailable except for a few isolated quartets). The sound is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finest recording of these masterpieces, June 18, 2000
This review is from: Les Quatuors Dedies a Haydn (Audio CD)
Period instruments or not, this is the greatest recording of these quartets ever made. The Mosaiques have the most gorgeous string sound of our time, they easily match the Quartetto Italiano in their best days, and for sheer understanding of the Classical Quartet they are matchless. Auvidis sound is exquisite, so ignore all others and buy this one.

This review is from: Les Quatuors Dedies a Haydn (Audio CD)
Quatuor Mosaiques have created a definitive recording of these masterpieces. The genius of the mature Mozart, composing these enriching works and dedicating them to the 'father' of the classical string quartet, comes through in these beautifully recorded renditions. The gorgeous bloom of the quartet as they reveal the wonderful chords, harmonies and melodies in these heartfelt and tasty performances is pure enchantment. There is a consistent sense of the many facets these works represent. The intricate polyphonic twists that Mozart makes as he unveils the full depth of his command and creative inspiration causes one to hear new and exciting things on repeated listening. His use of drum like rhythms in the last movement of K.464, a work much admired and studied by Beethoven and the explorations in the Dissonance quartet K. 465 are but 2 examples of the wonders to be discovered. Played with great feeling and taste, recorded impeccably and graced with informative and interesting liner notes, I am enjoying this recording immensely!
