4.0 out of 5 stars A Cuban Classic, June 17, 2000
This review is from: Que Se Funan (Audio CD)
Given the current wave of popularity of Latin music in general (witness Carlos Santana, Ricky Martin) and Cuban music in particular, this album has much to offer. It is a classic, recorded in the Fifties, and reflects the classic tradition of this rich musical heritage. The good news is that the songs are exemplary in the genuine quality of their content and their allegiance to the structure of the son, guaguanco, cha-cha, and other forms. The bad news is that recording technology of the period did not produce the clarity of sound that modern listeners are accustomed to hearing.

The subjects of the songs are charming. Clever lyrics, too, if you can make out the Cuban Spanish expressions. All in all, a spicy taste of the roots.
