Clarifying The Origin Of These Recordings,
By
This review is from: Queen of the Broken Hearts (Audio CD)
If you're a fan of Connie Smith, then of course you're going to want to own every recording she ever made. However in the case of this CD, you just might already have these tracks. These recordings are not the originals but they are also not "brand new" recordings either. This CD contains 10 of the 12 tracks that Connie recorded for the Dominion label in 1989 and released under the title "The Best Of Connie Smith". Missing from this CD are I'd Rather Believe In You and Jesus Is Your Ticket To Heaven. If you don't have the 1989 Dominion CD, which is long out of print, then you should definitely purchase this CD. Unlike many other artists' re-recordings of their old hits which sound weak by comparison, these arrangements are strong and full sounding and very similar to the original arrangements. Connie is in fine voice as usual and sings the songs remarkably like the originals but with subtle variations here and there, which makes the songs fresh for long-time fans and demonstrates to new fans why Connie is widely hailed as the finest country singer that ever lived. So if you have the Dominion CD, you won't need to buy this one, but if you don't, then pick it up before it goes out of print as well.

New recordings of the originals,
By harry44callahan (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Queen of the Broken Hearts (Audio CD)
Connie Smith is a legendary country artist and these songs are true classic country. I purchased this CD based on the item description, what it failed to note is the fact these are new recordings by the original artist. Not to say these don't sound good, but there are subtle differences in the sound from the original recordings; for instance the steel guitar on Once A Day is overshadowed by the other instruments. It should be advertised as new recordings; now I'll have to purchase another Connie Smith CD to get the sound I want! A fan of Connie Smith will still like this CD, but if you want the originals, I would recommend purchasing The Essential Connie Smith instead (which I'll probably be doing as I've already opened this!). Connie Smith is five stars all the way, but I can only give this four because they are not the original recordings.

Connie Smith - the Rolls Royce of Country Singers!,

This review is from: Queen of the Broken Hearts (Audio CD)
Connie Smith is the most under rated country singer of all time. She belongs in the same category as Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette. Unfortunately, far too many people do not even know who she is, or that she still holds the record for a new artist having a debut single hold at #1 for 8 weeks. This is a good CD to make her aquaintance as it has several of her best songs. They are all new recordings of the songs, so you may want to also visit the originals - you'll see that, if anything, she is as good or better today!
