Finally.. The Ultimate Soundtrack is upon us.,
By Bradley Tobin (Penrith, Sydney NSW Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Queen of the Damned (Audio CD)
When I heard that Jonathon Davis was writing 5 songs for the "Queen of the Damned" soundtrack.. Sure, i was excited, but i had no idea that it would turn out this brilliant. The five songs that he wrote have rapidly become 5 of my all time favourites. Everything about them, mood, lyrics.. It all fits a discontent Vampire like Lestat perfectly. In the process of writing these songs, Davis has given Lestat more character and more soul.. Which is a pretty mean feat. Yes, they may sound a bit like Gothic Korn songs.. But i see no problem with that. With lyrics like "I've killed a million petty souls, but i couldn't.. Couldn't kill you... I've slept so long without you", and "I'm trapped in this world, lonely and fading, heartbroke and waiting, for you to come... We're, stuck in this world.. That's not meant for me" and finally "I hear it fading, i can't speak it, or else you will dig my grave".. John has made Lestat more of a tortured soul, a little more human, a little more confused, which is something that does happen in the later novels of the Vampire chronicles (eg. "Memnoch the Devil"). Davis does not sing these songs on the soundtrack (the reasons for which have yet to be properly explained, many said he sings in the film but not the soundtrack, others say it's the exact opposite), i was disappointed when i heard this, but when i saw the lineup of talent that was called in in his place, my disapointment turned to utter anticipation. Wayne Static of Static X hit's things off with "Not Meant For Me", an angry song and a perfect start to the soundtrack. David Draiman of Disturbed (arguably the best of the new breed of Nu-Metal) is up next with "Forsaken", my second favourite. If any song sums up the trials and tribulations of a vampire, it's this. Linkin Park's Chester Bannington joins in with "System". While it's my least favourite of the five, that isn't saying much, as i dearly love them all. It, like the other four has great sound, great lyrics, an ominous mood, a nice length (at 5 minutes) and it actually picks up half way through and gets better, which is something of a rarity. The Big man himself.. Marilyn Manson joins the fun with "Redeemer" which will always hold a special place in my heart as it was the first of these songs that i ever heard, and when i heard it, relief washed over me as i knew i was in for something spectacular. I find it the most playful of the bunch, it get the feeling Marilyn is singing it with a sly little grin (don't ask me where that feeling comes from). Like all good albums, they've saved the best for last, my personal (and everyone who i've played it for) favourite.. "Slept So Long" by Jay Gordon of Orgy. Anyone who has seen the "Family Values" tour knows that Gordon and Davis go together like peas and carrots, so there was no way this was going to be bad. It's the longest of the 5 (at 5 minutes and 20 seconds) and it is also the greatest 5 minutes and 20 seconds you'll ever have, it's the sort of song that has everyone listening to it grinning in awe. I absolutly love it. No more can be said.. Just buy it and listen. The soundtrack is also filled with other greats, the best of which is Disturbed's "Down with the Sickness". If you haven't heard it, take Korn's "Daddy" and replace the daddy with a Mother, and you've got the picture, it's classic. While every song is great, my other favourites are "Cold" by Static X, "Excess" by Tricky (which was also in "13 Ghosts"), "Penetrate" by Godhead and "Dead Cell" by Papa Roach. It's also good to have an awesome horror soundtrack without even One Rob Zombie song.. I never thought i'd see the day. An all round classic soundtrack, that like the Crow movies and "Spawn", will probably vastly overshadow the film. It is without doubt, the greatest soundtrack i've ever heard.

Me? I'm satisfied.,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Queen of the Damned (Audio CD)
Very few soundtracks anymore actually match and capture the content and the atmosphere of the movie it was made for, but the Queen of the Damned soundtrack stays true to the movie. As we all know, Jonathan Davis (Korn) and Richard Gibbs wrote and composed 5 of the songs on here, but due to legal issues with Korn's label, Epic, Jonathan's vocals could only appear in the movie, but not on the soundtrack. Five well known vocalists were brought in to sing these songs instead. The songs are: 'Not Meant For Me' sung by Wayne from Static-X, 'Forsaken' sung by David from Disturbed (My personal favorite song on here), 'System' sung by Chester from Linkin Park, 'Redeemer' sung by Marilyn Manson himself, and 'Slept So Long' sung by Jay from Orgy. A few of the songs feature Head & Munky from Korn on guitars and Sam Rivers from Limp Bizkit on bass, but other than those few songs, Jonathan handles all the bass, guitar and some drum work. These five songs are undeniably the highlight of the album. As I said before, 'Forsaken' is my favorite out of the whole CD, and I think many will agree with me that it is the best. 'Redeemer' was very cool, and I don't even like Marilyn Manson. The rest of the songs on here are previously released tracks, but it is good to see them here because they fit the movie so well. Static-X contribute their new single "Cold," Disturbed have the infamous "Down With The Sickness," and of course, like so many other soundtracks/compilations out there, Deftones' "Change (In the House of Flies)" is included. I have lost track of how many copies of that song I have by now. The tracks by Kidneythieves and Tricky are also great. They are very eerie and moody and match the film. Overall, if you buy one soundtrack this year, make it "Queen of the Damned."(Buyer beware: The tracklisting on the back of the CD and in the booklet is in the incorrect order. The listing on the CD is the only correct one)

despite never seeing the movie(yet), i heard that its soundtrack was really good. so i decided to check it out on amazon[.com] and download a couple of songs. after listening to them, i decided to go buy the soundtrack. it is awesome! all the songs are so excellent. unlike a lot of movie soundtracks, which jump from rock songs to pop songs to jazz songs, it sticks with one general type of music-hard rock. anyway, i will give you a quick rating of each song-1. not meant for me-5/5 2. forsaken-5/5 3. system-5/5 FAV SONG! chester's voice is awesome! 4. change(in the house of flies)-kinda creepy vocals, but cool-4.5/5 5. redeemer-never been a big manson fan,but i like this song weird beginning-4.5/5 6. dead cell-not quite fitting for the soundtrack, but i like this song-4.5/5 7. penetrate-3.5/5 8. slept so long-5/5 9. down with the sickness-im not a big disturbed fan, either, but this song is pretty cool-4/5 10. cold-4.5/5 11. headstrong-4/5 12. body crumbles-i originally downloaded a diff. version of this song. i love it, either way-5/5 13. excess-3.5/5 this one is growing on me.. 14. before i'm dead- 3.5/5 this one is growing on me, too.. overall, i kickass soundtrack! there is no bad song on this soundtrack..the songs that i gave 3.5s to might even be able to be 4s.i just havent listened to them enough yet. this cd has a dark vibe to it, obviously. i love it! i can listen to the whole thing without having to skip a song. definetly worth the money!

Haunting and catchy...,

This soundtrack is an excellent compilation of blood-pumping music. The tracks written by Johnathan Davis and Richard Gibbs are excellently composed and fit the character of Lestat from Queen of the Damned most nicely. The layout is very nicely done with little sneak peeks at photos from the movie. I love all the songs written especially for the movie: "Not Meant for Me", "Forsaken", "System", "Redeemer", and "Slept so Long" as well as the mysterious song "Excess" by Tricky and the painfully true song "Before I'm Dead" by KidneyThieves. The song "Cold", used in the trailer, portrays the feelings of the vampires and it will be the first single off the CD, "Forsaken" being the second single.Overall this CD is worth the money and for me, a 'maniacal' Anne Rice fan, so much more. And hey, while you're at it why not see the movie...

Brilliant!,

This album is totally impressive. I love the film and the music in it absolutely captivated me, so I got it.
1. 'Not Meant For Me' - this is one of the songs that Lestat performs at his concert, the second one. It is really powerful and the vocals are impressive. 4/5 2. 'Forsaken' - this is really really good. I love the music in it, and the lyrics are very well written. 5/5 3. 'System' - it's nice to hear Chester Bennington away from Linkin Park and the rapping. He carries this off really well and is played during the club scene where Akasha attacks. 5/5 4. 'Change (in the house of flies)' - one of the best songs on the album. It gives me goosebumps, and the vocalist has a beautiful sound. Interesting lyrics though.. 5/5 5. 'Redeemer' - Manson is the man! He brings a so-so song to life with brilliant vocals and a modern sound. 4/5 6. 'Dead Cell' - this is during the scene where Jesse is trying to get a chance to see Lestat. It's pretty good for Papa Roach, but not the best song on the soundtrack. 4/5 7. 'Penetrate' - I don't really like the verses of this song, but the chorus is really catchy. 3/5 8. 'Slept So Long' - this is the first song that Lestat sings in the concert scene. It's definitely the better of the two. 5/5 9. 'Down With The Sickness' - Disturbed at their finest, this song is a masterpiece, and when it plays at my favourite club The Cathouse, everyone goes mental. 5/5 10. 'Cold' - I'd never heard Static-X before, but this song is one of my favourites. 5/5 11. 'Body Crumbles' - this song is really cool. 5/5 12. 'Excess' - most people don't like this, but I think it's really good, with an interesting sound. Is Alanis Morrisette doing backing vocals, or am I just hearing things? 5/5 13. 'Before I'm Dead' - this song introduced me to a brilliant band. This is an AMAZING song, one of the main reasons I got the album in the first place! It sends shivers down my spine it's so good. 5/5 BUY THIS ALBUM DAMMIT! :P

A voice for a truly immortal vampire rock star!,
This review is from: Queen of the Damned (Audio CD)
I've always found it hard to imagine how the ancient Vampire Lestat would sound on the rock scene today... One would expect him to be like my mum shouting, "Turn that racket down! I can't hear myself think in here!" while he tunes in to some Mozart!Jonathan Davis from KoRn and ex-Oingo Boingo musian, Richard Gibbs have certainly made a tremendous effort here with five brilliant songs "performed by The Vampire Lestat" himself (Not Meant For Me, Forsaken, System, Redeemer & Slept So Long). We all hear Jon Davis's voice in the movie (while Stuart Townsend mimes), but due to contract problems his voice cannot be used on the CD itself. The perfect solution though, is to use some guest vocalists from other well-known rock bands, like Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, Static-X etc. The results are quite stunning! (You will get the chance to hear Jon Davis's voice in full, with the MTV-style videos, on the DVD when it comes out) Definitely the 5 Lestat songs are the best on this CD - 'System' being my favourite, and my only complaint is that there aren't more Davis/Gibbs songs! I do however, love 'Change' by The Deftones, and 'Cold' by Static-X... Lestat Rocks! Debs (The Queen of the Damned Movie Cast Site

Totally awesome soundtrack!!!,

I first saw the movie and I totally loved it. Both the movie and the music in it. So I went and bought a soundtrack. And my first impression was: 'WOW'. I must say this is one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard. It may be a bit 'dark' but it still is great hard-rock/metal music. All the songs are awesome.
Beside some great bands, such as Static-X, Papa Roach, Earshot, Deftones, Godhead, Disturbed and Marilyn Manson there are also a bit less-known Dry Cell, Kidneythieves and Tricky. Beside that, there are also a couple of songs featuring singers of some major bands of this genre: Jay Gordon of Orgy, David Draiman of Disturbed, Wayne Static of Static-X and Chester Bennington Of Linkin Park. And the best of the best songs on this soundtrack are definitely the songs of this four. I especially like Not meant for me by Wayne Static, which I believe is perfect for this movie. It's dark and hard enough for it.

One of the very best soundtracks I think I've ever heard!,
By Matthew Harrison Smith (Nowhere, ND) - See all my reviews

Wow... May I say that again? Wow... I have listened to this CD countless times since I bought it and... WOW! Jonathan Davis, the lead singer of Korn, has done an amazing job at writing five original songs for this beautiful vampiric film. The songs, featuring the talents of Marilyn Manson, Static-X, and the lead singers of Linkin Park, Orgy, and Disturbed, have their own vitality that brings to life ever aspect of this film. First, the film partially revolves around the music, which makes the soundtrack incredibly vital to the movie. Secondly, the music probes an area with amazing lyrics that is rarely ever written about - VAMPIRES! These are amazing songs, with fascinating vocal talents. The entire soundtrack has a very Gothic vibe to it, which I rather enjoy being a huge Marilyn Manson fan. The other tracks on "The Queen of the Damned" CD are amazing as well, and they fortunately don't muddle the life of the Jonathan Davis songs. Instead, they support the structure of the rest of the music, bringing it all together in one of the very best soundtracks that I think I have ever heard. It's absolutely amazing!!! Everything about this soundtrack is dark, decadent, horrific, and I love it!

A dark miracle (considering),

I know, I saw the movie too, but suprisingly this soundtrack is as close to perfection as one could hope for.
No filler, just good tunes and the kind of atmosphere you can wallow in all day or rock out to for five minutes. With a smooth blend from track to track the whole is greater the sum of it's peices. I soon forgot who was doing what song and which track was playing. "DEAD CELL" is without a doubt the weakest track but it's carefull placement takes the edge off so I don't notice it as much anymore. There were three great soundtracks in my life. "The Lost Boys", "Hackers" and "The Crow". This became number four without breaking a sweat.

Well-Done Soundtrack, Can Stand Alone Apart From Poor Movie,
By
This review is from: Queen of the Damned (Audio CD)
There is little doubt that "Queen Of The Damned" was a pretty lame vampire flick, it had no noteworthy performances (unless you can count the late Aaliyah's short scenes as noteworthy), and a vampire rock star that resembled Jim Morrison. However, the soundtrack is a pretty good taste of hard rock, goth theatrics. It is no wonder that most of the songs were written before the movie was even filmed. The popularity of the album stems, of course, from the fact that the songs were written by Korn frontman Jonathan Davis, that weird expressor of the freakish. But unlike most Korn material, which rates more as a frontal sonic assault, the material here has more of a quasi-classical feel. It is in essence, a hard rock journey into the world of the Anne Rice "Vampire Chronicles" from which the movie was inspired (David Draiman and Chester Bennington, who contribute tracks here, are confessed Rice fans). Wayne Static of Static-X kicks things off with "Not Meant For Me," which is a surprising departure considering he is actually carrying a strong melody here. David Draiman of Disturbed delivers one of the more memorable tracks with "Forsaken," a wonderfully gothic, yes vampiric, moment where he loses the vocal gimmicks of Disturbed and delivers a strong vocal to some evocative, heavy melodies with a Middle Eastern vibe. Linkin Park's Chester Bennington also surprises us here with a new, more dramatic rough edge with "System," which has a crunching yet alluring wall of sound and memorable word play ("why won't you die?"). Marilyn Manson, the current auteur of goth rock, is weak here with "Redeemer," which sounds like a cheesy hard-edged creepy exercise, which isn't his fault considering the original version in the film was just as weak. Jay Gordon of Orgy delivers a stellar track with "Slept So Long," a crawling, menacing, evocative trip with some classical, Eastern flourishes and Dantenean lyrics ("I see hell in your eyes"). Kidney Thieves shine with "Before I'm Dead," a gothic journey with poetic flourishes and memorable vocals. "Queen Of The Damned" will no doubt be an item for Korn aficionados and those always gloomy goths who will no doubt love the material even if the movie is a disappointment. But this is one soundtrack where we can't blame them, even an Anne Rice fan would enjoy hearing her world of blood, romance and canine dental work expressed through the distortion and rough vocals of this very hard rocking album.
