This is a complete, beautifully photographed photographic history of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II from her coronation in 1952 to the Golden Jubilee this year. We see red carpets being swept, state carriages undergoing repairs, robes being laid out and rehearsals taking place to create the colorful occasions that are the hallmark of the British monarchy.

Librarians in need of a comprehensive--to say nothing of visually attractive--pictorial biography of the current British monarch need look no further. Graham is a veteran photographer of the royal family who was given relatively easy access to them, and his career spans three of the five decades of the long reign of Elizabeth II. (Early photographs of the queen appearing in this album were gathered from other sources.) Arrangement of the more than 1,000 photographs is neither hodge-podge nor strictly chronological. Chapters into which these full-color pix are appropriately and meaningfully gathered deal with topics such as the queen's travels at home, her travels abroad, her clothes and hats, royal residences, and the preparations involved in all the pageantry and ceremony that surround the queen's life. If you collect books on British Royalty, this book is a must-have. Not only does it record the life of a lady who personifies dignaty and duty, but it's sections are divided into sections of interest rather than a boring chronology. However, I bought it for two reasons: 1) I don't have books on the Queen and this is a great collection of her history 2) I LOVE Tim Graham's photography! I have collected many of his books on the royal family, particularly his photographs of Diana. The trust the royal family has given him shows in his work. The photos are real, but they're not "fake" or demeaning. Even non-royalty fans should own this book as a piece of history.

This book was given as a gift for Christmas. The recipient was very grateful. The pictures are beautiful. He began thumbing through it immediately and was willing to skip lunch at the senior home to continue gushing over how pleased he was with the gift. I'm sure it is a book he will treasure and look through repeatedly. He enjoyed the text, but the pictures of the Queeen's life is what he most enjoys. He IS quite a fan. Also, the book was delivered as promised even though we were having some terrible weather in the North East. Amazon came through nicely. Thank you!
