This review is from: Queen Elizabeth II (Hardcover)
QUEEN ELIZABETH II, published by Ammonite Press, (no author given), is a big, h-e-a-v-y book, filled to the brim with pictures of Her Majesty, throughout her life. It is a true "coffee-table" book -- in fact, it is far heavier and better constructed than many coffe-tables one finds in furniture and department stores these days! The paper and binding are of the finest -- sewn into signatures, (with visible threads -- as between pages 137 and 138), with a coloured, (in this case, purple), and white bindery ending seen clearly lear the binding edge of the book.
The pictures here are many and varied. Some have been reprinted more than others, so some may be new to the reader. Along with the pictures are very brief captions, so that a reader can properly placve them in her or his mind. The large-format of the book, (and of the pictures), allows a reader to more carefully judge the details of each picture -- including royal facial expressions on various occasions. If I have one criticism, (constructive criticism, I hope) of this book, is that not enough pictures are given, (at least for my own taste), of Her Majesty as a child and as a young woman.... However, a most kind and thoughtful touch, in the making of SO large and SO heavy a book, is a sort of "Pictorial Index" at the back of the book. Each and every picture is printed in thumb-print, miniscule size, along with the page number on which it is printed. This enables the reader to go more easily to any particular photograph in the book. If you have ever wondered what books presented to Royalty look like, look no further. Big and heavy, as I have said, well-bound and full of the finest paper-stock, as I have also said, this book can serve admirably as an "official photographic biography" of Her Majesty -- if, indeed, it has not already achieved this status. This book does NOT have every photograph ever taken of Her Majesty; being the most photographed woman in the world, a book containing every photo ever taken of her would run several dozen volumes of this size, I think. But there is certainly a large variety of photographs here -- both formal and informal. Looking through them, it does, after a while, establish the fact, in one's mind, that Queen Elizabeth II is truly what her publicity states she is: intelligent, serious and canny, (but not without appreciating a good laugh every once in a while), quite a strikingly handsome woman -- at whatever her current age, devoted to her family, duty, country, and commonwealth, a person who has true emotions and who can find simularities between herself and her subjects, more than onemight think. This book is truly a measure of the woman -- and that measure comes up very high. As this book is made of the very highest quality in all respects, so too is the woman whom it depicts -- at all times, in all circumstancs, and at all ages -- within the pictures and captions -- within all the many black-and-white and colured photographs, depicted.

The book is just fine. Pictures, a brief bio, etc. The problem is that I thought I had bought an audio book biography. As a refresher, audio books do not have pictures, or bindings, just discs and word picutures. The site was very confusing, but it was my mistake. While not happy, I can live with the old girl. Buyer beware, you might just wind up with what you want....only different.

This book is excellent for anyone who loves the Queen and the royal family. The imagery is amazing and is only enhanced by the captioning. A must buy for those who love the royal family

A very large book full of the expected photos taken from her entire life; largely black-and-white, and largely more formal than informal. Its amusing to notice the tremendous lengths to which it goes to avoid any photo that includes Diana, as "The Firm" continues in its relentless efforts to edit out her inconvenient legacy.
