5.0 out of 5 stars Where else can you get this level of stardom?
Where can you find Roger Daltrey, Metallica, Extreme, Annie Lennox, David Bowie, and so many others all in one place? If there's another concert that brings these artists together, I'd love to know about it.

3.0 out of 5 stars NO Extreme? No Good!
I agree with just about everyone else who has reviewed this DVD, how can the people who edited this cut out the BEST performance of the concert which was Extreme's medley of Queen songs. I thank my lucky stars I still have it on tape from when MTV first aired the concert 10 years ago. It's my favorite part of the show and by far one of the coolest moments. The band, most...

The band, most especially Gary Cherone, payed tribute to Freddie and Queen in the best way I've ever seen. The medley of songs were performed with such excitment and the audience loved them. So did I :) This DVD just starts the concert with Joe Elliott doing Tie Your Mother Down, that's like the middle of the show! There were several performances cut out mainly Metallica, Guns 'N Roses, Def Leppard, and the above mentioned Extreme. This DVD needs to be re-issued in it's entirety. I did, however, like those Freddie segments included on the dvd that were shown to the audience during intermission. Those were really cool. Great concert but not shown to it's fullest potential on this dvd and that's a real shame. QUEEN AND FREDDIE deserve more...and so do the fans :)

3.0 out of 5 stars i love queen but this dvd is so disappointing!, March 12, 2005
This review is from: Queen: The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert (DVD)
Like some of the other reviewers, I am lucky to have the VHS version of the concert. Believe it or not, the VHS version is much better than the DVD version....The DVD version has only half of the concert.....i love the first half of the concert, but its not included on the dvd. The whole dvd would have been enjoyable if the ENTIRE concert was on it :-(

1.0 out of 5 stars DVD - Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert 1992, October 5, 2005

When I bought this DVD, I was under the impression it was a re-release of the VHS concert. I have the VHS version and was wanting to update my collection. The problem is - the quality of video on the DVD is very poor, most of the concert was cut out, the commentary by the celebrities about AIDS awareness was edited out as well. (Half the basis behind the concert in the first place.) My opinion - DO NOT BUY THIS DVD !!! I'm throwing mine away.

As a fan of both Queen and the bands that perform at this show I can honestly say this is the worst edition of the concert ever published.

I recorded it when it aired live on MTV, and I'd still have it if my dad hadn't taped over it! They did an absolutely horrid job compiling this show. So much is missing. Robert Plant's oustanding cover of "Innuendo" is missing, as is Def Leppard's cover of "Now I'm Here" and Extreme's 15 minute long Queen medley.

I also hate the menu design, it's very difficult to navigate.

On the positive side there are plenty of extra goodies, such as band interviews and all the videos they played on the big video screens in the stadium in between acts.

Overall this is not nearly worth the 20+ dollar price tag.

2.0 out of 5 stars ...Go Buy the VHS..., December 6, 2002

I was so excited to see this out on DVD, I went right out and bought it without checking it out. I've worn out 2 VHS tapes of the concert. Why am I [mad]? Because they cut out a good 45 minutes of music. Three incredible Metallica songs, a very good Guns n Roses set, a fun Xtreme medley, and an amazing Def Leppard/Brian May version of Here I am. Don't get me wrong, the other songs are also great, but why cut anything?

I can't believe anyone who has the tape or the VideoDisc could ever give this a good review. This a big business trying to make a quick buck by ripping off people who don't know any better and impulse-buying dummies like me.

At least they could have put the remaining songs on the second DVD. Don't buy this DVD. There's plenty of new VHS tapes available on Ebay for about 20 bucks.

I'd give it one star...but for Freddie, I'll give it 2.

1.0 out of 5 stars Quit Editing, June 27, 2003

I don't own this DVD but based on the reviews I will not be purchasing it. I orginally taped this concert when it was on MTV years ago. Because my TV was a piece of junk at the time, the sound quality was terrible but I still have the tape. I ended up buying the official VHS tape when they released it but found that they had edited out some of the things that were shown on MTV when the concert first aired. Overall the VHS release still kicks... but I was somewhat disappointed. Now it sounds like they have edited out even more for the DVD. I am writing because I would like to see a multiple DVD un-edited version of this concert in it's entirety. I don't care what it costs. Put everything in there. People will buy it.

3.0 out of 5 stars I came out of my skin when I saw what was missing!, December 30, 2003
This review is from: Queen: The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert (DVD)
I too own the laserdisc of this show and got the DVD for the new mix in DTS. The sound is good, but it's the content they cut (the opening acts) such as Metallica, Def Leppard, GnR, Extreme and others. I would have gladly forfeited the "extra materials" for the original show instead of a bunch of new footage that was just as well served on the cutting room floor. Don't get me wrong, the performances they left in are great...but shame on them for cutting what they did...typical non-musician producer. The 2-star drop is for that reason alone. Glad I didn't sell the laserdisc!

1.0 out of 5 stars It's a great concert but the DVD sucks, December 2, 2003

This DVD set is a huge disappointment. How could the DVD have FEWER matertials than the VHS version?! I was expecting to see not just what they have on the VHS, but also the ones they edited out, but no! They have 2 discs and this is all they could put in? I just couldn't believe it! Guess I should buy the VHS tape on eBay instead...

I wish I had known this. The main reason I bought it was for Gare Cherone's contribution. Very disapointed.

The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert gather some of the greatest talent in the business together to raise AIDS awareness and pay tribute to one of the most powerfull men in music.

Queen's best music is performed by the likes of Gary Cherone, James Hetfield, David Bowie, and George Michael for a very power, very emotional, and very entertaining video.

Not just for fans of Queen, this is roughly three hours of the giants of music. The fact that they are here to pay tribute to Freddie is a nice bonus.

Unfortunately, at this time, the video is unavaiable. Perhaps we will see a re-release soon, as everyone should have a chance to experience it.
