This review is from: Queen of Halloween (Ann Estelle Stories) (Hardcover)
This Halloween book is appropriate for both girls and boys - don't be deceived by the title. The main characters in the book are a little girl AND a little boy. The book is the perfect length for preschool aged children and the illustrations are bright and detailed and offer a lot for little eyes to ponder. I would recommend this book for a gift, the classroom, daycare, etc.

The story begins as two children, a fairy queen and a pirate, head out for a night of trick or treating. They struggle through feelings of fear and bravery. The story contains a nice little moral by which to learn and grow. The pictures are vibrantly colored and interesting. A wonderful new addition for the Halloween season.

"Queen of Halloween" is a treat of a story for very young readers. Never even slightly scary, the book teaches a lesson about courage. Mary Engelbreit's bright and cheerful illustrations make it even more fun to read.
It's a simple little story that is perfect for kids on the spookiest holiday of them all. by Tom Knapp, Rambles.(n e t) editor

This is the first Ann Estelle book I have read, but I am familiar with Mary Engelbreit's work. In fact her Mother Goose, Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes are among my favorite versions for my young children. This story follows Ann Estelle, dressed as a fairy queen, and her friend Michael, dressed as a pirate, trick or treating on Halloween night. Ann Estelle is a little scared of all the spooky costumes, and both she and Michael have to show bravery to stop at the last house, the scariest one of all. The ending is happy and sweet. A short and simple story, yet one children will enjoy.
