[BookStrand Historical Romance] Dr. Cecilia Ashby is forced to disguise herself as a man in order to practice medicine in a small Southern town after the Civil War. When she stumbles across an injured gambler in an alley one night, will her ruse get the better of them both, especially when she finds herself attracted to him? Gambler James Lawrence has played his last hand and finally has enough cash to buy back his family's plantation that the carpetbaggers took from him until he's blindsided, robbed, and left for dead. James finds his stolen earnings in the hands of Cecilia's brother, the young thief who now resides on his plantation. James and Cecilia both want the plantation, but do they want a long lasting love even more? Battling deceit, betrayal, and disguises, the two must confront their biggest challenge yet. ** A BookStrand Mainstream Romance

Editorial Reviews

Review

4 BOOKMARKS: "I found that Ms. Campbell's twist of Cecilia being known as Doctor Lee Copeland very suspenseful. I was kept in waiting to see when this would be discovered by the others. The discreetly written romance in this novel is tastefully done...I feel this is more romance than any other genre. I look forward to reading more from this author and recommend this read to romance readers. Suspense and romance make a fine mix for this author!" -- Anastasia Cassella-Young, Mind Fog Reviews --This text refers to the Kindle Edition edition.

More About the Author

Phyllis Campbell is an award-winning, and multi-published author. She has been with several publishers such as Bookstrand Publishing, Champagne Books, The Wild Rose Press, and Dark Castle Lord Publishing. Most of her reviewers have given her the title of "Queen Of Sexual Tension". Married with kids (and three grandchildren), Phyllis has lived in Utah all of her life and enjoys family activities when she's not writing her next sensual story.

Some of my older stories have been revised and I'm now with Night Shift Publishing and my books will be on Kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Queen of Hearts, July 28, 2007
This review is from: Queen of Hearts (Paperback)
Queen of Hearts is a page-turner from the beginning to the end. I was held captive by the characters and the storyline. The heated chemistry between the characters sizzles. James and Cecilia are excellent in their emotions and expressions. He is a gentleman in every way and his sex appeal drips from the pages. This rare read is indeed like a fine wine. I never grow tired of reading a book by Phyllis Campbell. This is one recommended read, one should not miss!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Hearts from TRS!, August 19, 2010

Fireworks are exploding every time James and Cecilia get near each other. Ms. Campbell does a fabulous job of building the sexual energy between the two. Your heart bleeds for James as you are given flashbacks of the lost of his family's plantation. And your modern mind rebels against a time when a woman wasn't accepted as a doctor. Queen of Hearts gives you an engaging, thrilling, and romantic read. The story is able to sizzle without being overly graphic.

James and Cecilia battle against each other for the same prize without even knowing it; allowing the reader to a secret chuckle as you try to figure out each characters next move. There is a great protagonist that you can love to hate. Add in the mystery of who attacked and stole from James and there is not much more you can ask for. I will definitely be looking for more books from Ms. Campbell. - Helen Ruby
